Uh, UVA Physics and E-school do indeed fail people. You aren’t a current student or have a child in either of those programs, obviously. |
Still, the percentage of students that flunk out of selective colleges is probably very, very low these days. |
Is it good or bad to be the biggest party school? I think a school can be very social without being a big party school. Likewise, parties can be generally good or they can be excessive and result in dangerous and hurtful behavior (drugs, addiction, assaults).
I had more experience with JMU and UVA and saw some situations that went to far in retrospect at both. This was some time ago, though. No experience with VT. |
+1 UVA has always been known as a party school. It is no secret. |
if you are at UVA on a game day, there will absolutely be "darties" at the frats starting at 11 AM on Saturday, some absolutely with bands. |
+1 Not uncommon, at all. Why would anyone think this is uncommon? They need to visit! |
Specific students will fail courses or even fail out, as always has been true, but UVa only accepts students UVa believes are fully able to succeed. Further, UVa does not tell all the incoming students that many incoming first-year students will fail out and not return for 2nd year for academic reason. You did not read the phrase “try to fail people out” carefully, which is different from some students happening to fail out… |
Nearly all kids in college now lost social skills building years in pandemic. I’m not sure what happened 6 years ago is the same now.
Party level is determined by major in a number of schools. |
No one said it did? Which is the beauty of all these schools - enough students so that everyone can find their “people” and socialize in whatever way they choose. |
+1 PP is the usual troll. |
All of these schools are excellent both academically and socially. |
UVA has lots of "spoil" partiers with crazier parties than JMU.
Don't know much about VT but I know many kids that attend Radford go to VT campus to party. |
I visited friends in 1993 there and we did coke. Is it possible you didn't know everybody in Blacksburg? Also, UVA is still full of coke. It was like that in the 1990's and I don't think it's changed much since then. |
Have news for many of you: drinking and coke exist at ALL schools. You are terribly naive to think otherwise. |
DP- at UVA you can't party hard your first few years b/c you're not yet accepted to your school of interest. Many kids are devastated when they dont get in the business school, etc as its super competitive. You go from being a valedictorian at your public HS to a little fish at UVA. |
