U Richmond vs W&L

Sounds like someone is dense. Yes, the schools are different, as described. If you don’t like that, make up your own facts, have your kid go wherever, and good luck.

Both schools are great schools and they definitely have different vibes. So finding the better fit for your child is equally important.

Oh please. Can we dispense with the "admissions stats" = better schools? With all the games these schools play in terms of admission . . . this means next to nothing.

For location, Richmond is more urban and in my opinion better located. Richmond is also a D1 school while W&L is D3 which results in more school spirit on campus at Richmond. Richmond is a more mainstream school while W&L is a much more conservative school. W&L is very Greek and if you go it seems almost a requirement to rush if you don’t want to be an outcast. W&L is small with almost 40% less kids than Richmond.

The Honor Code at Washington & Lee is something your family needs to fully understand. There is zero oversight of the student run committee who decides what is or is not a violation. Students also won’t snitch and others cheat without repercussions.

It was the same at a private high school my kids attended too. No idea why any adult thinks that official peer judgment is a good idea in today’s world. Kids are anxious and depressed over feeling constantly judged already. May as well just hand them a rope or a gun.

Doesn't UVA do the same thing?

Richmond is gorgeous. W&L less so. W&L is hugely into the greek scene, like 80%. if that's not your kid, go to Richmond.

Richmond is very Greek, too, albeit less so than W&L. If heavy Greek life is not appealing, I'd expand your search.

I went to UR, and this might be the dumbest post I've ever seen about the school. FFS.

So there does not appear to a significant academic difference.

There is a difference, but the significance of that difference is up for debate.

might you be thinking about VCU? U of Richmond is about as suburban as it gets - and gorgeous.

A slight difference on paper maybe. The rankings are so similar it's hard to imagine a student from one school would seem more intelligent than the other.
