Aside from location, are they essentially the same academically? |
No. W&L is stronger and the cohort of students in classes will reflect that. |
+1 |
eh not sure that one is stronger than the other. I will tell you that Richmond will have more from the northeast, NY and NJ, than W&L will. |
How so? |
W&L is more selective and takes a higher cohort of student as mentioned above. The Johnson scholarship (up to 10% of class draws some exceptional students)
Acceptance rate 16% vs. 24% Top 10th percentile 81% vs 56% These 2 schools were my daughters #1 and #2 choices. W&L was considered a high target and Richmond was a target based on Naviance etc. |
This is interesting, but I wonder if it really makes a noticeable difference. |
W&L is definitely stronger. You are correct that Richmond draws more from the Northeast. |
What metric suggests W&L is definitely stronger? No connection to UR here, just don't see any data that shows W&L is truly in a different tier. |
Aside from the tougher admission stats mentioned earlier, W&L has a higher graduation rate, higher retention rate, Higher Yield and Higher median earnings after 10 years(89k vs 74k). They are ranked higher in almost every category plus they have a more robust alumni network.
Both schools are great schools and they definitely have different vibes. So finding the better fit for your child is equally important. |
How is the vibe different? |
Is 16 vs. 24 statistically significant? |
Yes of course it is. A 24% admission rate is 33% higher than a 16% admission rate. |
LOL - I don't think you understood the PP's question. Whether the difference is significant or not depends on the variation in the underlying estimates 16, 24. But we don't know the variance, so PP cannot be answered. |
When compared to hundreds of colleges, this difference seems minor. |
