Where do smart kids go now?

Sure the prestigious/expensive colleges are looking for excellent grades and top test scores, it's just that excellent grades and top test scores don't give kids an automatic in. And if they're applying to the same 10 schools all of their classmates are applying to, they're not likely to get into any.

FWIW, my smart kids were interested in liberal arts colleges. They applied to ones with a range of selectivity and are very happy with their outcomes.

Anywhere where a lot of kids got high SAT/ACT scores, no?

+1 Because of a whole host of reasons beyond acceptances. Smart kids are all over the place. Some would even say it's better to be the cream of crop than one in a sea of many.

Guess what, I work with a lot of smart people who went to a wide range of schools. Many are smarter than me. Any good college your kid chooses will be full of smart people.

Why is “Ivy MBA” in ALL CAPS?

I only meant to capitalize MBA.

Anywhere the acceptance rate is less than 70% will have a large number of smart kids

I don’t really care about prestige, and I’d rather save my money, but my smart kid would like to study math with a bunch of other smart kids. Some weed-out is ok, but preferably not too cut-throat.

Where do the boring smart kids go?

Oh, good grief. Of course top schools want excellent grades and top test scores, but so many students have these. They are just not enough.

Like PPs have said, there are smart kids at every school

Quit trolling.

Mine will be at Maryland studying CS for free.

And yet you capitalize “Ivy,” so you’re not all that smart.

So now it’s “trolling” to suggest that there are more smart kids at UVA than VCU? Why are all these kids killing themselves for four years in high school, if all colleges are the same?

Are you OP? It does seem like a trolling question. Yes, smart kids go to top schools and medium schools and even schools that are - gasp! - lower than that. If you’re actually serious about wanting suggestions, be a little more specific.

Learn to read. No one said what you are saying. OP literally said "excellent grades and top test scores is not what prestigious/expensive colleges are looking for," which is ridiculous and untrue. I said smart kids are at every school. That would include both UVA and VCU. Neither said those schools (or any schools) were the same. OP never suggested what you are saying, in fact they are hinting at the opposite.

Before you summarize, check your reading comp.

Why is “Ivy MBA” in ALL CAPS?

Anyone who ever attended an IVY knows to capitalize it. It's the strivers that don't know that.

Nobody who went to a good Ivy refers to their school by the athletic conference. It is only used at the lesser schools and is a sign of insecurity.

You sound like Andy Bernard from The Office. I bet you are wearing Cornell socks right now and telling yourself in the mirror how smart you are.
