Is Walkability a code word?

Apparently OP's car has been surgically attached to her and she can't imagine walking... just to walk!

Is it because they are alcoholics or drinks who can’t get in a car after going to a bar?

Are they swingers who want to bring other couples back from nearby bars and restaurants close by?

You're nuts, OP

HA! This is hilarious. From the title, I thought the OP was going to call out homeowners wanting walkability as "racists" or something like that (which is still ridiculous) - but found the actual OP to be even more ridiculous.

This has to be one of the crazier posts on this website

There are people who think that prioritizing walkability over living by good public schools (which are typically in car-dependent suburbs) is immature. I don’t agree, but I think that’s what OP is getting at.

I like walkability (I can't afford it, but I like it). Mostly, I like to walk. It's nice to get some activity in after a meal, chat with my family, etc. If I am going to have any alcohol, I don't drive, out of an abundance of caution not because I'm drunk. I'm not a swinger.

Hahaha, truly!

A lot of people prefer to run errands by foot and enjoy living in an area where this is possible. Personally, I just vastly prefer walking over driving

It mean....people who don't want to have to use their car to do things.

If OP had said that, I could see their point. But what OP actually says... has nothing to do with public schools and is frankly bizarre.

Yes, it’s code for swingers. They really don’t have a good place to stash car keys, license, and insurance cards (being as that they are mostly naked for the purposes of said swinging).

Has nothing to do with SES.

The downtowns of Rockville, Wheaton & Silver Spring are walkable. All the postindustrial cities that DCUM hates, like Baltimore, are too.

DCUM posters tend to hate living near loud/busy main roads, which are often walkable with sidewalks. Lots also don’t want live directly within walkable cities & towns due to schools.

Oh my god, what?

This is sort of like that post by the person who doesn't know anyone you takes amtrak!

We are a family of four in a very walkable area (Shaw.) biggest perks: my kids walking to school -- we chat, we see friends along the way, se sometimes stop at the cafe on the way there. walking them home, maybe we stop at the store and pick up a few things, maybe we stop at a park or playground on the way home. the journey (the WALK) is so so so pleasant. we observe our surroundings, we interact with our surroundings very easily, since we are on foot and can just stop and interact. it's not Point A to Point B the way that a car ride is.

Wait just a minute! My neighborhood is 98 percent walkable. Are all my neighbors having sex with each other and I never knew??? This changes everything!

We also are a family of five who just like to be able to walk to the park and the library and school and restaurants, etc.

These days it’s code for “champagne tastes.” Often paired with Prosecco budget!

No, I just hate driving. Are you too out of shape to do anything without a car?
