Basketball summer leagues-county level travel

Yep, a lot of the local orgs that used to just have winter and summer travel teams like BRYC, CYA, Burke added AAU programs because their winter and summer only teams could not compete in the summer and winter leagues with the year rounders. Now there are just some of the local places that don't do spring/summer AAU. Their kids still want to play but they can't compete with teams that have been practicing and playing together year round. Its too bad because a lot of kids don't want to specialize on one sport only for the whole year.

To be fair, some AAU teams are really bad and take anyone who can pay. So its hard to figure out which league might be a good fit. It doesn't benefit anyone to have blowouts which was the Stars league last summer. Waste of time for both teams.

I wouldn't be surprised to pay for a tournament, I think the fact that it was a league charging daily admission seemed like a real bait and switch. It's a league, you charge one fee for the season.

I really don’t like the way Shotsup is ran, but if you want player development, thanks the best option in Virginia right now, probably the whole DMV since the best Maryland and DC teams compete it it as well.

I really don’t like the way Shotsup is ran, but if you want player development, thanks the best option in Virginia right now, probably the whole DMV since the best Maryland and DC teams compete it it as well.

Please share more info on shotsup. We are debating between the two for summer. We know the pros and cons of stars.

The shots up games always felt like a running clock because the officials called almost nothing. they were definitely there to keep things moving along. if you opt for that league, definitely request double headers. it saves your families money and your kids won't be tired after one game.

I didn't do shots up, but my kids regularly play sports at the St. James gym. Was there anything preventing parents from just watching from above? That's how I prefer to watch futsal. The membership office is on that hallway, so I doubt shots up can but up a table to charge there
