Poor, greedy, coarse behavior - what would you call it?

OP: Well yeah, it was like breathed in all in one go. I sent the same sized box to my OGBYN's office and they took a week to work thru it.

That’s different. In an office, people are afraid of looking like pigs so they restrain themselves. At home, it’s on.

Personally I think it sounds fun to eat a box of fancy chocolate with my sister. They probably had a blast.

That said, I like at least half of what you described is simple manners. Not greeting people or not having enough seating for your guests? Sounds like manners weren't taught/learned.

+1

Both - same as with DH's family - you literally had to grab at dinner to make sure you had food, because there was never enough made, even though money was not scarce. It was a held over mindset from Dh's parents being in the Depression. We have a large family, too - but time was spent with us/on us, so we didn't feel "lacking", even though we were quite poor.

Reading this, it sounds like OP isn't well-liked by her siblings. And yes, they are rather boorish, especially with the way they started soliciting the doctor to provide free medical advice.

Don't believe that rich people won't step on anyone in the way to get what they want/need. They are worse than poor people because they lack empathy for others.

The only reason they are not hoarding a seat or chocolate is that it's not scarce. They didn't get rich by being nice.

I think not standing to greet people at a party is fine; you can greet people just fine sitting down (now that in think at it consciously I do usually stand by I can’t imagine being offended that my host did not). As for offering seats, it’s polite of course but also this is family. You don’t have to break out company manners for family. And I really think you’re projecting re scarcity mindset about chairs. I grew up in a house that didn’t always have enough seats for guests and often was relegated to the floor (I was youngest) and still like sitting on the floor tbh. Sitting on the floor is really nbd unless there are age/health issues at play.

Eating through a box of chocolates with my sister in a day? Would totally do that. You don’t get to police how someone chooses to use a gift you send them. Did they say thank you? That’s the manners that matter.

If OP is significantly better off than the siblings then there could be resentment.
As for the seating, it could be cluelessness or poor manners, not necessarily malice. I have a relative who will just stand at the door and talk to her guests without offering them a seat or having them take off their coats. She’s a nice woman but lacks social graces.

Clear this up for me, why should someone else stand or sit on the floor so that you can have their chair? Are you elderly, handicapped, pregnant? Or is it just that you are rich and therefore more important?

So you just remain seated and stare at your guests? Interesting.

Are family guests? I would never ever expect my parents to give up their seats for me or my partner/kids!

Doesn't sound like a lack of social graces to me. I've nearly been knocked over by guests who invite themselves inside the second I open the door and keep their arms crossed when I greet them...at least your relative is friendly!

The others were also guests, they just arrived earlier than the OP.

You sound unbearable, tbh. You are one of them, but now you act like you are a hoity toity better than them....
You are worse, so much worse.

So was it the Queen entering when they all were to get up? Did they say hi, from their horrible, seated positions? Did you expect the whole table of seated people to get up to greet you?
Did you not see them for a few years?
