They did. Behind the scenes they were very forceful with DDOT. They threatened to sue to block the trail, even if it was routed away from their campus. They've also been strong advocates of complete demolition of the Foundry Branch bridge, which would ensure that a trail never went through there. They know that if part of the trail is built there will always be pressure to extend it to or near their campus so they want to kill it in the cradle. They've been playing this game where in their public statements they insists that they only care about where the trail touches their campus but behind the scenes they've been working to block it. |
You are using words that you either don't understand or want to gaslight others into believing they don't understand. The article is about him and his character. Various posters are pointing out that his protestations to benevolence are belied by a history of NIMBYism, as attested to by the public record. He is the "Advocacy & Government Liaison" for the "Trolley Trail Preservation Group" FFS - literally a lobbyist for an arch-NIMBY campaign that has deprived future students of MacArthur HS of a safe and comfortable way to get to school on foot, bike, scooter, one-wheel or whatever so that he and his fellow neighbors could continue to project de facto rights over public land. |
Even what they have said publicly is nothing short of disgusting. Georgetown U. absolutely needs to be lit up for the position it has taken on the trail. They claim to have adopted "sustainability" as a virtue but yet are working hard to make it as hard as possible to get to their campus by any other mode other than driving. They have the chutzpah to claim that a trail would be unsafe for pedestrians and cyclists whereas the death-trap that is the sidewalk on Canal Road isn't? What passes for policy making in this town - courtesy of the likes of Georgetown U., Bill Slover and his merry band of "Save Don't Pave"-rs, the LAB School, the Maret School, and so on and the clients they have cultivated in the DC government - should appall everyone. |

This is a remarkable thread. Pretty much everything said in it is accurate. Slover is exactly how he’s described in the article. He has a history of NIMBYism. That said, he is definitely on the right side with the housing corruption. And, finally, Georgetown has worked behind the scenes to kill the Trolley Trail.
I think this is a first for a thread. |
Do you have anything to say about the content of the article? Nothing? Then your attempts to defame this guy as a NIMBY are nothing short of gaslighting. gaslighting: psychological manipulation of a person usually over an extended period of time that causes the victim to question the validity of their own thoughts, perception of reality, or memories and typically leads to confusion, loss of confidence and self-esteem, uncertainty of one's emotional or mental stability, and a dependency on the perpetrator |

From the quotes in the article: - In an interview, she said she has found Slover’s questions about the agency “useful” but that his “style and tone” have helped create “what I would describe as a very hostile and toxic environment” on the board. “Mr. Slover is frankly very bullying,” Donald said. “The line of questions at board meetings is very condescending, a lot of grandstanding, and often seems to be designed to make points rather than to elicit information.” “It’s persistent and consistent and it’s actually very disheartening for me and my staff,” she said. Anyone who has dealt with him would make this statement More -Dionne Bussey-Reeder, who said in a text message that “he never wants to work in unison as a board to accomplish the real work.” Guy in comment section on Wash Post I have served on the boards of many organizations with productive board and challenging missions. Mr. Slover is NOT an effective board member trying to solve issues and advance the mission of the organization. He is disruptive, entitled and condescending while using his platform to advance his own ego. Effective board leadership requires constructive engagement, not flame throwing. No successful business would tolerate his behavior. All of the above statements only reinforces what many in the Palisades think of him. Everyone in this thread thinks Bill is probably accurate regarding house Everyone who has dealt with him in the Palisades or in any other unfortunate situation knows what everyone has said about him is true. So how is that gaslighting/ |

Wow -, this is why we don't get good people in public positions. Bill is trying to help people being hurt by the mayor. And he is being subject to personal attacks just for doing his job. Noone is perfect and I don't think silly neighborhood squabbles should distract from housing reform.
Will the needy residents of DC be better off without him as an advocate? Guess y'all think so. You must be a bunch of developers. |
No. Way. How is that allowed? Considering how hellish it is to park there when there's a game or practice on the field, that should not be allowed. |
Technically there is no sign that says you can't park there after hours, to my knowledge. Plus, those people at DPR are incredibly lazy and it would be too much work to lift the receiver and call someone. Finally the DPR people never come out of the building. Many Sherier Place residents have driveways but they aren't being used. All of those drives can hold one car. That area is always crowded with parked cars. So I'm thinking its not just them that parks their car there overnight. |
When your friends say, on the record, that they used to say you're "a curmudgeon but [you're] our curmudgeon" and that you can "sometimes be a little harsh" in negotiations... |
It's parking for members of the public. |
Yup. It’s pretty disposable from the Green Team. No wonder why Bowser is able to so effectively escape accountability. She has a group of vicious sychophants that attack her critics at every turn. Why isn’t the discussion about why Bowser cares so little about poverty in DC? It seems to me that her goal is get rid of all the poor people and she’s been very successful at it. Which is probably why the urbanist/YIMBY “progressives” act as her attack dogs. Because they share the same objective of gentrifying the city. |
The idea that being a curmudgeon is a strike against him bizarre. He is the only person who has bothered to care enough to stand up for the truth and good government and that is the exactly because of his personality. He’s not there to makes friends and play politics. We can all see how well that attitude has gone for the city. Need more people like him TBH. |
We would love to trade him to your neighborhood for a new neighbor to be named later. |
It's not "silly neighborhood squabbles". He has actively lobbied against a trail that would make it a million times safer to get around the neighborhood by bike or by walking. Instead, students must risk their lives on one of the busiest streets in NW DC if they want to bike to the new high school. All this because he and his neighbors didn't want to deal with the indignity of people actually using public land behind their houses? WTF? I'm not a member of the housing board and so can't speak to his behavior there. I guess it is possible that there are people who act completely selfishly on some issues - as he and his fellow NIMBYs have done on the trolley trail - and completely magnanimously on others. But those people are not common and I'm not inclined therefore to give him the benefit of the doubt. |
