I guarantee to you that many of us weighing in here have told Bill Slover and his merry band of NIMBYs - in writing and in person - exactly what they think of the horribly irresponsible nonsense propagated by the "Save Don't Pave" campaign. You obviously don't understand the slightest thing about the issue and, for that matter, seem resistant to education given how you keep referring to it as a disagreement about "sidewalks". It's also pretty sad that you think of road safety as some kind of joke. Those of us who have watched family members come within inches of being mown down on MacArthur don't see it that way at all. |
| The Chardonnay Socialists are back en vogue again? When did that happen? |
Actually, I think that an individual's record on sidewalks is an important part of their record of public service for the most vulnerable. https://highways.dot.gov/sites/fhwa.dot.gov/files/2022-10/VRU%20Safety%20Assessment%20Guidance%20FINAL_508.pdf |
Sure. However, I am skeptical that the person who comes to DCUM to post their bad opinions anonymously because they know that if they said them to real people everyone would know they are crazy will actually follow through. |
You know something that I have never heard people say ever outside of online, “I’m a YIMBY”. It’s incredibly hilarious and exactly why you come here to post your bad opinions. |
Not the PP you're responding to. I have heard people in real life say they're YIMBYs. I don't know why you would call it "incredibly hilarious", especially because it doesn't sound like you're actually happy about what you're posting. |
99% of the world doesn’t know what the hell that is. Absolutely hilarious and a good indicator that you live in a tiny, tiny bubble of your own making. Even ostensible YIMBY politicians are not out there proudly declraing themselves YIMBYs. Although I suspect part of that might be that they don’t want to associate themselves with the new gamergate online harassment movement.. |
Person who hasn't encountered something says the person who has encountered it is living in a bubble.
|
The idea that you think that you are at the vanguard of a popular political movement shows that you are incredibly delusional. Keep ii up! No one is listening to you and no one cares. |
Evidently you care. |
I care about disparaging people who try to make the city a better place. I couldn’t care less about your pet interests. |
I know of hundreds of people who signed “Save Don’t Pave” petitions thinking that they were doing their part to protect a pristine wilderness because Bill Slover and his neighbors told them so. They were also duped. |
Now that you mention it, I don’t think “NIMBY” is a good word to describe those who opposed the development of the trolley trail. “NIMBY” generally refers to those who oppose infrastructure that, while usually necessary, generates manifest negative externalities for those who live in the immediate vicinity. Stuff like power plants, wastewater treatment facilities, major airports, landfills and so on. Bill Slover et al. opposed turning a tract of public land that is overgrown in places, muddy in others, and impassable for a good portion of the year into something that could actually be used by everyone in the city. They opposed giving children in the neighborhood a safe way to get to school. They opposed something that would make almost everyone’s lives better off. Such people are not really NIMBYs. They are just jerks. |
Does this make any sense to anyone else out there? |
What the hell does “YIMBYs” have to do with this? We’re talking about how the advocacy of the Save Don’t Pave campaign - for which Bill is the appointed lobbyist - screwed over not just his neighbors but a good chunk of students who would like to be able to get to the new high school without endangering their lives. |
