An article worth discussing:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2022/12/18/dc-housing-authority-bill-slover-bowser/ |
| Bill's wife, Laura, lobbied hard against efforts to convert develop the Palisades Trolley Trail - public property which more than a few homeowners with properties abutting the trail have incorporated into their backyards - into a path that could be used by the community. The local ANC voted 11-1 in support of the trail, but DDOT has mysteriously forgotten about it. One can only imagine what lobbying went on behind the scenes. |
Bill is on the website dedicated to preserving the trail too: https://trolleytrailpreservation.com/ |
"Why spend $15M-$20M to rework PPT when the Capital Crescent Trail exists?"
|
| NiMBY for me, YIMBY for thee. |

Bill and his wife don't have a garage.
They park their car at the Palisades Rec Center. |
Sure and it's not clear why we need Sherier Pl when we have Canal Rd. Maybe we could bulldoze it? MacArthur High School is opening in the fall and kids wanting to bike there will have to brave the horror that is MacArthur Blvd thanks to these people. DDOT had the plans all lined up, the ANC endorsed, and then DDOT just stopped and said it was no longer a priority for them. Maybe just maybe it was because the opposition included a few people like this very close to the city's leadership? |
|
Mary Cheh stopped it from moving forward.
Let's also keep in mind that she got $40 million to acquire the HS. |
Actually the other big reason is the opposition by Georgetown University. |
That is only at the southern end. The rest of it would be fine. |
| It is honestly disturbing that so few people care about public housing for the most vulnerable residents of the city and instead want to attack the only person who is trying to achieve that goal. |
The university worked to scuttle the entire trail. |
What he is doing with housing is good. And most likely he's correct in all of his criticisms on that subject. Except that everyone in the Palisades that knows him knows that he is condescending, complains frequently, acts like he's the smartest person in the room and frequently is in opposition to any type of progress near his house. The Trolley trail is only one issue. How about the Palisades Rec Center? He is one of the reasons that the Rec Center has one hoop instead of a full court. For all the people cited in the article who are probably corrupt the irony is that every criticism said about him is spot on. |
I don't believe that's true. |
Do you have anything to say about the content of the article? Nothing? Then your attempts to defame this guy as a NIMBY are nothing short of gaslighting. |
