Even a “puppet of the Castro regime” has the right to raise his own son, particularly when the mother is dead.

I don't disagree. The flip side is that the mother gave her life to bring her son to freedom.

It seems to me that many liberals/Dems view Cuba in a semi-positive light. Mostly I think because of misinformation. The idea that education is "free", that the health care system is any good, etc. Those of us who grew up there, went to school there, and still have family there know better.

I hate to pick on a dead person but no she didn't. She was hoping to make it to the US with him. Her death was an accident. If someone put a gun to her head and said I'll shoot you in exchange for raising your son in the US, then you'd be justified in saying so.

Umm this doesn’t make sense. She risked her life to get to a free country and died in the process

Why did they not stay and fight? They seem likely cowards.

They will vote for whoever is perceived to be most anti communist. And again, most are socially coservative so the work agenda isn’t appealing either

And she took the boy with her without his father’s knowledge.

This is who the Cubans in south Florida supported but would not fight the communist to keep him in power. They are the typical “conservatives” cowards.

Batista is the same as the Republican Party/conservatives/trump. This is way the Cubans support Trump and the republicans.

Batista moved to Florida, returning to Cuba to run for president in 1952. Facing certain electoral defeat, he led a military coup against President Carlos Prío Socarrás that pre-empted the election.

Back in power and receiving financial, military and logistical support from the United States government, Batista suspended the 1940 Constitution and revoked most political liberties, including the right to strike. He then aligned with the wealthiest landowners who owned the largest sugar plantations, and presided over a stagnating economy that widened the gap between rich and poor Cubans. Eventually it reached the point where most of the sugar industry was in U.S. hands, and foreigners owned 70% of the arable land. As such, Batista's repressive government then began to systematically profit from the exploitation of Cuba's commercial interests, by negotiating lucrative relationships both with the American Mafia, who controlled the drug, gambling, and prostitution businesses in Havana, and with large U.S.-based multinational companies who were awarded lucrative contracts. To quell the growing discontent amongst the populace—which was subsequently displayed through frequent student riots and demonstrations—Batista established tighter censorship of the media, while also utilizing his Bureau for the Repression of Communist Activities secret police to carry out wide-scale violence, torture and public executions. These murders mounted in 1957, as socialist ideas became more influential. Many people were killed, with estimates ranging from hundreds to about 20,000 people killed

The Cubans in south Florida are Batista thugs, apparatchiks, secret police and Mafia who lost all the money they stole and ran to Florida.

That’s silly and it isn’t a response to what changed from supporting Ros-Lehtinen to supporting Trump and Desantis. Do think bigotry and corruption and fascism are more anti-communist than the reasonable moderate representation Rod-Lehtinen. Because that is all Trump promised and all that he did, and Desantis is doing the same. There are no communist candidates or policies on the ballot in Florida. I’m from the South. I know that “anti-Communist” in America is code to justify opposing civil rights for Blacks. You are Birchers now.

Do Cubans really think they're white? Do they realize white people don't and just use them and they don't care or what?

Many Cubans are white though. Direct descendants of Europeans

But in the US people use the one drop rule. White southerners don't think of Cubans as white. No matter how European they are. They are just as likely to be discriminated against as most other wealthy Latinos. Which is to say less likely than dark skinned Mexicans and Guatemalans, but more likely than people who don't speak Spanish and read as fully Americanized.

I lived in Miami and none of this matters to Cubans. If you are racist towards them they react the same way as white people, with a confused shrug of their shoulders. Honestly if you look at the makeup of judges, political offices, etc in Florida you would find that FL Republicans have zero issue voting for Cubans while the Democratic bench in FL politics is exceptionally weak. In fact, making your above argument to Cubans would probably make them more likely to vote R.

That is a very typical portrait of a foreign dictator the US loves to install overseas so let’s not paint it as a republican thing.

Cubans are one of the higher income immigrant groups in Florida, maybe. And that's not saying much , at all.

Yeah, he kept your businesses open. Good job on the egotistical streak. So, who patronizes businesses ? Ghosts? Squirrels? If a deadly and highly contagious pandemic shows up in town and claims lives at a rapid pace . Who is going to show up at your business ?

EXACTLY !!!! In addition, the only people who were doing good during batista were the white passing Cubans. Afro Cubans were languishing and subjected to racism at the hands of those fools who carry water for the gop in Florida. Screw 'em.

You grew up there, when? Also, stop with this deliberately misinformed nonsense about dems viewing Cuba favorably . You know it's not true , but it's what you tell yourself to justify your own bigotry that keeps you voting gop.
