Very disturbing incident on metro bus

Sorry, not in the budget. The police don't prevent crime, they respond to calls and write reports. Most people know what needs to be done, but that has to do with accountability and looking at what is really causing the problem. The truth hurts.

But they don’t have weapons and they’re not hitting her, they’re just trying to push her off the bus. Way scarier stuff happens on the buses. I think it was 10+ years ago at the height of when DC was “good” and there were kids throwing rocks at the buses which was really dangerous. This is bad but not that “scary.”

“They’re just trying to push her off the bus…”

Oh great! No big deal!! 😳😳😳

Fine the parents for their kids actions in public.

I have no idea "how" she asked, but nothing justifies what these kids did to her. And I get why people are scared to intervene. What can be done to help prevent some of the out-of-control behavior of youth?

What can be done? Avoid areas and places, like “bad neighborhoods” and public transit where violent people are more likely to be.

Your privilege is really showing. You realize that so many people in DC have no choice but to live where they live and take public transportation, right. So we should make it safer for them instead of throwing our hands up and letting these hoodlums run the show.

The video is obvious that you’re on your own out there.

Have the talk with your kids to never go to areas like that.

Metro Transit Police should be on buses, too. MPD should be on Circulators, akin to TSA on planes - you won't know who they are, but they will keep you from hurting anyone. But that would require a huge cultural shift at MPD. They view themselves more as warriors than cops with all of us and our petty needs, like safety, beneath them. Look at their crime clearance rates - it's almost as if we pay them to not work.

Paying people $100k per year to ride around on buses is a waste of money.

This is actually very disturbing. It wasn’t just kids, either, it seems. It’s upsetting to watch.

Unbelievable. I hope that woman is it ok.

This is the result when a society glorifies near universal disrespect and violence.

This is a result when a society continues to oppress and segregate poor people and gives youth in these communities little hope and a lot of anger.

Crimes were committed on that bus and those responsible need to be held accountable. However, there are deeper issues at play that need attention.

Please tell me you're not serious. God help these animals if they ever laid a hand on my mother like that.

I am the OP. I am not a psychologist or sociologist, but I did work in the criminal justice system in the late 80s/90s in Baltimore City, and saw all kinds of horrible crimes. But they were almost all personal -- DV or gang turf wars. Not this type of random mob violence against a woman in broad daylight. I think it's the "mob" aspect that bothers me so much.

See bolded. This is what is wrong with people.

You can’t make sense of stupid.

WTAF?
And why give up on black boys/men, and reject them, as parents? Wilding is not okay.
