Is Florida part of the South?

Anonymous
I’m a Floridian. North Florida, including the panhandle is most definitely southern. Jax is just South Georgia with a beach. Central Florida is where most of the crazy folks live. It’s where I’m from. There is a mix of everything here. South Florida has a Cuban feel, in a really awesome way.

You don't know what the Redneck Rivera is? It's the panhandle.

Although not from the redneck riviera, Lynyrd Skynyrd is from Jacksonville, named after their gym teacher.

I lived in Jax as a kid and Miami as an adult, this is so true! South FL and Miami definitely have the strong Cuban community and influence and there's large communities of other Caribbean, Central and South American people living there- depending on your work and the circles you travel in it feels like you're not even in the US.

Then the Keys have their own identity as well and I don't really think of them as culturally "Southern" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conch_Republic

This.

BS. Born and raised in FL. It depends. Along the bigger cities, it feels less southern. But outside of these areas, it is a truly southern city. And I mean southern in terms of architecture, landscape, cuisine, etc. People need to read more Florida history. It was a territory that was overtaken by Spain and France in the past. It has rich native american and spanish culture/remnants and now a good portion of latino culture in SoFL.

It has underwater caves, a coral reef, amazing and unparallel beaches, and so much native wildlife. If you don't like it, stay away!

All of my in-laws and people I know that live near Tampa/St. Pete are super liberal. I don't have experience though with more northern parts of Florida.

It’s so funny when northerners are so proud of their parochialism.
