Can you get toned/fit from walking?

My legs did. Nothing happened to my upper arms.

I noticed a difference but I have a naturally muscular build - my arms look toned even if I don't target them. I've been walking 5 miles daily at a moderately brisk pace (4.3 mph) and moderate incline (9 or 10%) for about two years. It's not going to give me a six pack, but my core is stronger, absolutely.

To me toned means you need to hone. Hone into the area you are targeting to make it look good and healthy. If it's your abs, you hone into that area and do the exercise that targets the area. If you want to tone your arms, you don't do walking for that. You start with punching the air and you do light weights.

Please. Don't.

Don't be the shadowboxer at the gym.

Just don't.

Assisted pull-ups. Push-ups on the knees.

And the real trick to getting your arms to look good: focus on the deltoid.

also skip the light weights. you don't build muscle shadowboxing and lifting light weights.

If you wat to look toned, lift like you want to get bulky. To really get bulky takes immense effort and most will not come even close to this .

No, you are not going to look like a lean fit goddess by just walking. Omg what kind of question is this.

This is wrong. You can get time with light weights.

You will also do better doing push-ups off a table than on knees

Yes you can mostly because you don’t have to fuel to walk but most have to fuel to run.

Of course you need a different low weight upper body work out too, but to be slim, lean and tone you can just walk.

I’d say min 40 min a day, 4 miles 2x /week and 6-8 mikes 1x /week.

4-5 miles a day walking/ hiking used to enough for me to stay slim, but once I hit 50, I really noticed the lack of "tone" i.e skinnyfat / flab. Since walking is the only thing I consistently do every day (because of 2 active dogs), I've added a weighted vest to my walks. Started at 6 lbs, now up to 12. I do squats, lunges and arm exercises while I walk, to the horror of PP. Arms and legs are looking more toned, but of course, it's doing nothing for tummy/ core.

From personal experience yes. Daily brisk walker averaging 16 miles a week. I'm petite middle aged woman. Legs look particularly good. Arms look untoned though and skinny. Am getting more toned arms with pushups though. Diet is everything. So I'd say 80% diet 20% exercise.
One benefit is daily women walkers have a significant lowered risk of hip fractures and pelvis fractures. Walking is the most underrated form of exercise. I love it year round plus I get through a ton of podcasts audio books too.

This! If you already a heathy weight or close and the most you want is to not be overweight, then walking could be enough. But you aren’t going to look lean and athletic if that is what you are wanting
