The bigger issue isn't the drugs, which she pled guilty to - it is that Russia is trying to use her as a bargaining chip to reduce pressure on themselves over their invasion of Ukraine.

Trump really screwed that poor boy didn’t he? Russia is plainly using her as a bargaining chip. Ten years is a ridiculous, inhumane sentence. When she gets out after that she’ll be in no condition to resume her career. I think her Russian attorney advised her to plead guilty so they can move forward with the exchange. Commercial vape pen marijuana is likely Delta 8 which is freely sold at shops in most states including Virginia. Look it up. That being said dumb Americans should consult the State Department advisories before they travel.

People need to understand that the laws of the United States do not apply to foreign nations, especially those that have proven to be incredibly hostile towards US citizens. I mean, if you go to these places like North Korea or China or Russia, you either need to tow the line or expect some consequences and some pretty severe ones. Well last I looked she wasn't in Virginia. She was in Russia where it is not legal

It's not even that. She basically evacuated once Russia invaded Ukraine. It was an emergency and unplanned departure during a moment of extreme geopolitical tension. To bring her vape pen during thise circumstances was stupid beyond belief. It wasn't a run of the mill departure. She should have known not to do that.
