I don't get it either grew up in Fairfax and Maryland was deemed ghetto right or wrong that's been imbedded in my head all my life. Furthermore everywhere I've been to in MD is dirty and nasty. I don't get it at all.

You should really get out more.

Education: MD is number 2 in the nation. VA is number 6.

Median Household Income: MD is number 2 in the nation. VA is not in the top 5.

GDP: MD is number 8. VA is not in the top 10.

Anecdote: you, growing in Fairfax, using words like "ghetto" and "nasty", and saying you've something "imbedded" in your head.

The only good thing about Maryland is that the roads are better than in Pennsylvania. Otherwise it has nothing to recommend it. Of course housing in NoVa is going to cost more.

Now compare Loudoun & Fairfax county vs Montgomery county. Last time I checked Montgomery doesn’t even crack the top 10 in medium income.

Because we have actual services to residents, as well as protected limited abortion and an assault weapons ban. That is worth paying more in taxes. We're not hicks that just vote for their perceived short-term interest and then act surprised when women don't have rights and people die in mass shootings.

You couldn't pay me to live in VA.

Taxes in Virginia are commensurate with the level of services. It’s a trade off.

It’s also purple and long term trending left. But trends are not a straight line. I’m happy for now staying here and doing my part.

The prices you all have been paying for mediocre housing is crazy. I thought we had it bad and apparently we don’t. House hunting in NOVA has been depressing this far.

Depends on where in VA. Mclean, yes. Herndon, no.

Houses in Herndon are between $700,000 and $1.5 Million right now. If that's affordable to you, then kudos to you for marrying a lawyer.

There are townhouses in the 400s and split level sfhs in the 500s (town of herndon). I think you married the lawyer, friend.

I should have clarified, I want a real house with good schools. Try again.

What is a “real house?”

I assume by good schools you mean white and UMC.

Np Virginia has tons of diversity. Sorry you don’t think Asians count! Herndons school problems aren’t just poverty, it’s language too.

When I moved to the DMV area I was deciding where to live.
I crossed of VA since the State leadership thought it was appropriate to have Lee-Jackson-King day. (Note - that is exactly what it as called). I refused to pay my tax dollars to a state where this was OK.
To celebrate King in the same breath as Lee and Jackson (and to have Lee Jackson as a recognized state holiday until 2020!) is one reason why many select Maryland over VA.

How many of those new build developments in the last 20 years in Loudoun included affordable housing?
How much has all the building contributed to environmental issues and Loudoun homeowners do not fully bare those costs?
Starting 15 years ago, they should have required all new homes to have geothermal or solar but but only did that not happen - they added in more garages and made them bigger for larger cars

It won’t have changed. Montgomery has been a county in decline for many years. I guess if you want to live in Section 8 housing in Germantown it might be better than some other alternatives like Largo.

NP. Loudon booster has entered the room. “Come buy a house here, I need the agent’s commission.” He’s like a broken record.

You couldn’t pay me to live in one of the soulless VA developments mushrooming all over Loudon and Fairfax. And yes, I can afford it.

It’s “Loudoun,” you idiot.

But go ahead and keep your brand of “soul” - musty, crime-ridden, and defined by class conflict and dissatisfaction with your economic stagnation.

Hey folks, if you want to live next to angry, insecure people like this, you should move to Loudoun!

Sorry, “Loudoun” is so far out in the boonies that those of us who have no reason to go there never do. Give me close-in Bethesda, Kensington, Takoma Park, or even Arlington, with their interesting housing stock.

They did come across as angry but everything they said was facts. MoCo is on the decline and rather than legitimate rebuttals all you MoCo promoters can come up with us “well virginian is racist and has no soul”
