I get my heart rate up very high at 20% on treadmill even at a very slow speed. |
Yes it counts. My dog is a 6mile per day dog (2-3 walking, 2-3 running), and it’s definitely exercise. |
+1. (Plus making sure I am eating lots of protein and vegetables at every meal). |
Same poster again. Get a calorie counter like a fitbit and take a look at how consistent walking inches up your calorie burn. People overestimate the burn of things like running and underestimate the effects of daily movement. |
I suppose it depends on your baseline fitness.
I do strenuous exercises plus weight lifting several days a weeks. No I don’t count walking as exercise. Unless it is excessive like an all day rough hilly terrain hike |
I lost 60 pounds since February walking 5 miles a day (at a pace of about 4.3 mph) and cutting carbs to under 125 a day and calories to under 1,800 per day. |
Congrats! I walk daily, too. I have a bad back and walking keeps me in shape because I enjoy it and will take walks twice a day. I hate "exercise", but I love walking. |
I’ve lost 19lbs in 2 months by watching caloric intake and walking. I’ve watched my walking pace decrease from pushing 17.5 minutes a mile to a steady 16 minute mile average and lowering daily. I walk roughly 6 miles a day at that pace and 2-3 more at a brisk but not sweat inducing pace just going to/from work, school pick up/drop off, etc. What I need to work on now is toning. |
I just returned from vacation where I averaged 20k steps a day for a week. It was my first vacation where I lost weight. Walking counts in my book as exercise! |
Walking is excellent for weight loss and keeping trim. I walk daily 2 miles, brisk. I do 15 miles a week, brisk, year round. I do this over 6 days. Two miles on weekdays and the rest on the weekend. I never count regular walking around store or office as exercise though BC that's a slower pace.
Also great for legs, glutes, and reduces osteoporosis risk significantly. Also reduces blood sugars fast. People have asked me if I am a runner BC of my lean build. They are always surprised when I say i walk. Some people are dismissive of it BC they don't think it's good exercise. I invited a friend to walk with me, and she says I walk too fast! From: a lean nearly 50 yo woman. (PS. My skinny physique is entirely attributed to my daily brisk walks and healthy eating. Three square meals no snacks except on weekend). |
No, if you're trying to lose weight. I walk and haven't lose a pound but it has helped me with stress immensely. |
Several years ago, I lost 30 lbs and kept it off. Walking was key for me. My weight got really low (19% BMI) and my appetite was basically gone. |
