I'm just going off of what I hear. I've heard time and time again from people on this forum and in the media that Montgomery County has been passed up by Fairfax and is in danger of being passed up by Howard, the District and even PG Thanks to their unfriendly business environment. |
Alot of the newer crop are political opportunists looking to break into politics. Plus the victimization many do about being "outcast" for not voting D. It's hilariously sad. |
It's funny how everyone thinks the anti-Elrich posters are pro-Riemer. Riemer is a non-issue in this race. It's Elrich/Blair. |
Montgomery County got passed by Fairfax 20 years ago. That ship has long sailed and it has nothing to do with Elrich. Also, the County got passed by Howard County before Elrich was even elected. DC is a mixed bag. More high wage jobs but also higher poverty. There is a rotational cycle going on where DC is forcing poor residents out, mainly to PG County. Black residents to Capitol Heights and Latino residents to Adelphi/Hyattsville. Then Moco has been getting increased migration of poor residents from PG County. While PG County is growing and has some nice areas there is zero chance it could surpass Moco as a whole. However, the east county has seen significant rising poverty which is starting to spill over into mid-county areas. Again, this had nothing to do with Elrich. The conditions for this were a result of the financial crisis and Doug Duncan. The “unfriendly business environment” is not a problem exclusive to Elrich. Riemer has been a big proponent of things like regulating restaurant meals and creating green building energy requirements. It’s a cultural problem within the county government that goes quite deep. |
It’s a presumption because the only people who express significant visceral hate towards Elrich are the Riemer supporters. |
District 1 (Bethesda/Potomac/Poolesville) has just as many voters. And it actually had a higher percentage of voters turn out last election. Of course, that was a presidential election and one that people passionately cared about. How similar is Bethesda to the SS/TP faction? http://www.theseventhstate.com/?p=13242&emci=8a013491-d7f0-ec11-b47a-281878b83d8a&emdi=eaf91f6c-6af1-ec11-b47a-281878b83d8a&ceid=6636412 |
Oh. I hate both. Voting for Blair. |
You must not work with him. Because I do. He's horrific and surrounds himself with his coterie of like-minded advisors. |
This is why. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2022/06/us-city-violent-crime-rate-perception/661337/ |

He hardly won.
Too many D’s ran and it split the vote. Then he ran against a certifiably insane R. |
True, but now he has the incumbent advantage - name recognition. |
He beat both Ficker and Floreen, who ran as in Independent, with the same vote share as Ike Leggett. It was as solid a general election victory as they come. |
I don’t work for him nor care about your HR grievances. Don’t like your boss, find another job. The point is only that he’s the only candidate I’ve ever seen have his signs out front of $4 million houses and also have strong support from unions and underrepresented minority groups. It’s an incredible coalition for its breadth, but I guess not depth. |
| I like he doesn't take developer money and made sure the dummies wore masks as long as he could. He does actually seem to be making a difference in the county, which is a lot more than I can say for his predecessor. |
Elrich has a fascinatingly broad geographic base of support. Like him or hate him, this is why he’s tough to beat.
