Same.

I would love someone to tell me what they like about R White that’s not “he’s not bowser”. He seems to have placed himself to the left of bowser on a lot of issues (crime, covid, etc…), which I really don’t want for our city. I would consider voting R or 3 rd party, but know nothing about those candidates.

I don't think he's that different from Bowser on specific issues. The problem with Bowser is that she's half-assed just about everything. Her policies are always more show than substance when you scratch the surface. White strikes me as far more genuinely caring and interested in policies that work.

What “policies that work” is he supporting? From why I can tell, he’s just doubling down on bowsers failed pet projects - covid closures, violence interrupters, more funding for the same failed jobs programs, etc…. If someone ran on a platform of prosecuting crime and reducing the number of out of state drivers in DC, I’d vote for them in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, the candidates we have seem more interested in doubling down on failed policies than actually improving the city (in my opinion).

That is my concern.

100%. I’m furious about this too. But I can’t figure out why Robert White is better. Would he fight to even the playing field with developers and protect residents? Plus he wanted schools to stay closed. Bowser fought, albeit unsuccessfully, to open schools earlier. I didn’t vote last time-no confidence in Bowser— so I may just sit this one out too.

He's running as an independent, so can't vote for him in the D primary.

Robert White sucks.

Wait. The Mayor has to fix these things? There’s no one further down the food chain who can help handle getting this kind of thing fixed, like the school administration? DCPS? ANC Commissioner? Mary Cheh?

Yes, the Mayor oversees DCPS and DGS. If they don’t get things done, she is responsible for ensuring they get done. If they aren’t getting done because those agencies are poorly run, that’s also her problem. That’s mayoral control of the schools for you!

Got it. Thank you. He seems great

Can someone please clarify why you say that Trayon is anti-Semitic? Thank you!

I'm voting for Bowser because she does not have a serious challenger. Robert White repeatedly says whatever the crowd in front of him at that time wants to hear. T.White is not an option for numerous reasons. I don't want to, but I will be voting for Bowser. Again.

Every mayor since Williams has been beholden to developers. Robert White would also be --just a different group of developers (maybe) and nobody knows who his people are yet.

Oh noooo. Those terrible developers who built nice buildings and new restaurants and who helped drive down the crime rate through urban renewal. They’re the worst! We need more subsidized housing on every block!

We are not your personal fking Google.

But since it serves to help shed light on how fking stupid this guy is:

It looks like Trayon’s staffers have had some luck getting the video pulled down from YouTube.

As you can tell he’s a deep thinker.

Yes Bowser. The one who put section 8 housing vouchers into every apartment in the city. The vouchers pay 200% of rent and has turned longtime buildings into defacto section 8 housing with no supports.

Have you looked at what’s happening near Forest Hills? More crime in the voucher buildings. More middle class renters being displaced. But the developers are fat and happy.

I would like a mayor that is tough on crime, and not scared to arrest and jail violent criminals, someone who is beholden to developers because it’s clear they turned the city around since it faced utter decay under folks like Marion Berry, and someone who will cater to UMC parents who would consider sending their kids to DC public schools.

I literally do not care how antithetical that may be to the values of the vast majority of progressive, urban, city dwellers who make their home in this town. I do too and it’s clear that they’re misguided altruism and desires for the same types of progressive policies as other major cities don’t work. Look at San Francisco and its recall of Chesa Boudin or its ultra progressive school board members. I just want common sense, bread and butter stuff.

If someone car jacks or mugs someone, arrest them and put them in prison, don’t release them in perpetuity back to the streets.

If a child is showing advanced ability in math, allow them to thrive in an ap class, don’t stick them with remedial learners who would retard their progress.

If building luxury condos, dog parks, roof decks, pop ups and the like increase home values, so be it. Let the market work as it should. Chill out on all the rent control and DCRA bureaucracy as well.

It’s pretty simple. But, as studies show, humans are biologically programmed to root for the underdog, so anything I say is met with reflexive shock. How can this poster be so cruel!!!?? Think of the poor families…no dude, if people can’t hack it, they can move like everyone else. We should have some to of social safety net, but not tons of ineffective programs funded in perpetuity that show no signs of abating poverty. I like the paid leave proposals for maternity leave and some summer jobs stuff, but seriously we can’t subsidize the same generations of families in projects in perpetuity and claim it’s unfair no to.
