SNL needed somebody who could appeal to a certain age and diversity demographic. There was Jimmy Fallon before him, then that Adam Samberg guy, then this Davidson guy. Think they are meant to appeal and retain the young dude slacker audience.
I don't know if Davidson has any writing talent but he sure doesn't seem to have acting talent. He seems to be always just himself in his skits.

How are Michael Che and Yost still on the show? They don't even appear in skits - minus the news segment .
Do they just do the writing and then make an appearance on stage 1x?

Exactly. They are writers, do Weekend Update, show up in some digital shorts, and appear in a sketch now and then when needed (usually Che when they need another black guy).

I love love LOVE Kate McKinnon, as everyone should, but I think her departure will open up more opportunities for a lot of the other extremely talented female players. She seemed to play every celebrity character--which shows how amazing she is--but kept other cast members from stepping into the spotlight and getting a breakout performance in the same role.

I have also loved Aidy Bryant. I expected she would be moving on after last season, since her Hulu show is on, and this season she was barely in or event completely absent from some shows.

Pete Davidson is ok/good. I don't love him, but I understand his appeal to a certain demographic that likes his brand of humor. He has grown up a LOT tho, and I think that's his real appeal. He evolved as a comedian and even as a person. His earliest WE bits were just him saying "penis" and "weed" whenever he could slip them in. So dumb and boring. But now he's a reliably funny presence. Again, not the best, but not awful anymore.

Kyle Mooney, lol. Clearly I watch a lot of SNL and he is one guy I will not miss at all. The *only* thing he ever did that made me even chuckle was his rap "battle" with Kanye, and even then Kanye had the best part.

Weekend update anchors are often the head writers rarely appearing in the rest of the show. Tina Fey. Seth Meyers.

Another unpopular opinion but I think Pete is a great comic who is also cute too. I like him on the show however in like 80% of his sketches he always breaks character which does get old after awhile. But his music videos are really very good as well as his character Chad.
I am very sad that the incredibly talented Kate McKinnon will be leaving too. She WAS the entire show. She will go places just watch!
I really love Aidy Bryant, I love when she gets to play the wholesome, goody two shoes types. She has the look and the talent.
Kyle Mooney went to high school w/my younger brother. Scripps Ranch High Falcons in San Diego!! He was pretty funny and outgoing in high school and was a great comedic asset to SNL for many years (except his Baby Yoda impersonation!)

• I hope to see more of the Do Not Disturb trio. Those guys never disappoint!
I really hope that Bowen Yang, Kenan Thompson, Chris Redd and Mikey Day stay on for a few more years. Well Mikey has been a cast member for a very long time already!!
And Colin Jost and Michael Che are totally worth their weight in current events gold!

I would think that Kate’s departure from the show would have garnered more headlines than Pete leaving would.
I would never in a million years think that as many fans of Kate’s wouldn’t find this major news.

I honestly couldn’t stand when Pete Davidson was on Weekend Update as the Resident Young Person.
He came off as a wet behind the ears, untalented troll to me then. But through the years his maturity has grown and he has rightfully made his mark on the program. While not the funniest in the biz, he seems to have created a huge niche for himself in the comedy world where we are sure to his star rise.

Kate will be sorely missed. I cannot imagine never seeing her glorious talent anywhere. She definitely will ascend to the A-list in Hollywood I am positive.
