No, literally a boring middle aged white woman. And honestly, part of the reason I let it go on so long is that a few (but not all, by any means) of the culprits speak English as a second language. But their English is otherwise perfect, so... I honestly don't know what's causing it. |
| Omg who cares? Get over yourself. |
Ugh. Yes. The nicknames are not my name, and it's weirdly intimate to create your own for a person. |
Found the selfish person. |
No, but exactly like this. |
It's basic manners. You call a person by their preferred name. It's who they are. Using whatever variation pops into your head is rude and dismissive. |
+1. I have a very popular name (now) although it wasn't popular at all while growing up. People always mispronounce, misspell... it's no big deal. I just laugh it off when someone realizes it. People also like to shorten my name, give me nicknames - I see the positive in it. That they find me approachable enough to do so. I've noticed on DCUM that people get upset over this, too. There are so many other things to get worked up over. |
| stupid hippies, can't stand them making up the fake names, also reminds me of frekonomics |
^^we found the woke viewer. 'preferred' name. Let me guess, you're in your 20s/early 30s? |
+2 Same here. My name is not typical and people get it wrong. But I simply correct them and just move on. It’s not something I’m going to lose sleep over or get angry about. It’s not like people do it on purpose. |
Preferred name was a poor choice of words. It's literally OP's legal name that she wants to be called. |
It's overly intimate and seriously presumptuous. |
No, I'm in my 40s. Preferred name is correct. If a Jennifer wants to be a Jenny, then that's her preferred name. Stop trying to fight when there isn't one. |
| OP here - I find it interesting how the tone of this thread changed when I said I was white. |
| I often have this problem. What I don't understand is that my name is right on your screen when you are responding to my email, why is it so complicated? |
