There are less nice names for them that I will not repeat here - they were women who hung out and spent too much time at the frat house. Maybe a step above the women who joined sororities, but that is not saying much.

Pretty bold of the wives to “roll their eyes” when they married these frat guys. The “sweethearts” were just young and it last a few years. The wives made a legal life time commitment.

This made me lol. And Amen.

I would not want to be invited somewhere because someone felt bad for me.

I would rather eat glass than go to my husband’s fraternity reunion.

Depends on the frat. In some situations, the wives barely knew the husbands were in a frat, but are still expected to attend.

I suppose being a sweetheart at a frat reunion is far worse than being a wife at the frat reunion.

Do all frats have sweethearts?

It is tradition for the frat brothers to sing the sweetheart song to the bride at weddings.

Awkward.

Is this a southern school?

This all sounds terrible but thanks for sharing-it’s fascinating!

You can expect me to ngaf what is “expected” of me by my husband’s fraternity.

I was a sweetheart for a fraternity (and in a sorority). It’s meaningless. It just means you hang out there a lot. I did nothing for them (lol at motherly and cooking). They are not picking motherly girls, but girls who like to party. I didn’t even date anyone there (1 guy a year after I was made sweetheart and it didn’t last long). Never dated or hooked up with any others. This was in VA though. I don’t know what happens at these hardcore sororities down south where Greek life is a whole different thing than VA.

Frat Sweetheart here. I have never attended a frat reunion. I am unaware of any former sweethearts or little sisters who attend who didn't marry the frat brother.

Really? That is the exact opposite of the sweethearts who I know. Not one of them married anyone from the frat, or any frat.

They get “passed around.” A lot.

I was a “little sister” at a frat. And I wasn’t in a sorority. But “my big brother” literally was like my big brother. And I never dated him or anyone else at his frat. I think I reminded him of his real little sister. I could go to his frat to study, go to parties/dance, drink and hang out. And while at Tim’s frat/house, nothing ever happened to me. Never hassled, touched, followed, etc because all the guys knew I was Tim’s little sister. And there were some frats at my big 10 school, I would cross the street to stay far away from even in broad daylight.
