Yes, I'm being petty and slightly off topic, but, these two are just off the anxiety charts.

Many of us aren't on AEM so we don't know what you are talking about- I'm assuming that's what you are referencing.

Yes, it is. Here's a brief synopsis with some direct quotes:

Anxious teacher: (with link to proposed budget) "Proposed budget is up....here we go... first got (sic) take is excitement".

Crazy Ventilation Lady: "What's to be excited about? I don't see a damn dollar for air quality or better masks. Anywhere.(........more hysteria...........) But we are SUPER KIDDING OURSELVES if we think COVID is over. (..........more hysteria.........)"

She then proceeds to leave like five more comments on the deplorable situation.

NP. I wish she would create her own FB group. She overwhelms conversations and takes away from the group. I used to find nice helpful information on that site but with people like her, I don't visit as much anymore. Such a shame.

I’m so glad I finally muted her.

I don't read a lot of AEM posts so this one surprised me. She really did say "What's to be excited about?" which completely undermines/erases the good news for teachers and workers who DESERVE raises and to teach smaller classes. When folks called her out on it, she tried to suggest that she could be excited for teachers and angry...but she really just said she was angry.

I do not want any money going towards masks that might go towards someone's salary. Masks won't even be required in a few weeks. Perhaps it is wishful thinking, but masks can come and go with variants but we need good teachers all the time.

Thanks for the recap. I blocked her so I don't have to see her crazy. I love posts where there are hundreds of comments but I can only see half. The other half is her.

Same - I don’t read too many posts there, either, but was interested in budget discussion. Definitely taken aback at the “there’s nothing to be happy about” attitude when this is one of the least crappy things APS has put forth in quite some time. Jeeez.

I'm an APS parent and totally agree! Glad you're satisfied.

Glad to hear he's focusing on the important things.

Me and some neighbors are going to try to push the CB to fully support the SB budget since the CB was looking for input.

If it helps, every teacher I know is a fan of the budget right now and would 100% rather have money spent on lowering class sizes and fixing the pay scale/restoring steps to veteran teachers. I don't know any teacher that wants precious APS funds spent on air quality or masks.

The APE whiners should just ignore her.

Be like Duran - filter it out and focus on the important stuff.

Is it a goal for you to somehow turn every thread into a complaint about APE? Please move on.

It's not going to last. They're able to do this because of the additional money available this year. A few more years when budgets tighten again, class size will be back on the table. People don't realize how much all the salary increases along with having to hire the necessary staff to ensure those small class sizes cost and will increase over the years.

Ok Debbie Downer, in absence of Duran personally being able to halt multifamily housing development or eliminate the burnout teachers have experienced over the last couple years.... what would you propose the budget look like?

I'm not opposed. I'm just pointing out to people that class sizes have gone up due to budget constraints, not because our previous or current superintendent wanted to increase class sizes - that class sizes are a reflection of budgets and not the superintendent; so don't start complaining about Duran if class sizes are increased again due to teacher shortages or increased enrollment or tighter future budgets. Arlington parents never want anything cut AND want teachers' pay to go up. Sometimes, something has to give. If not class sizes, then some programs or other "how can you even think of taking that away" items.

But if the outcomes of lower class sizes are favorable it creates more political will to keep them. People could lobby the county board for more money next year. If nothing else let’s take the smaller class sizes while we can!

Class sizes were increased the last two years despite opposition to it. APS doesn’t have the luxury to run a deficit and increasing class sizes is the easiest fix when budgets are tight. It’s a question of math rather than political will. Unless the county wants to commit more to APS.

So I’ve been trying to figure out who the “crazy ventilation lady” is who gets referenced on here. I just went to look at the budget post and it shows there are 16 comments, but when I try to read them only one comment shows (even though I have all comments selected). Does this mean crazy ventilation lady has me blocked??

I’m not even very active on AEM (I mostly lurk, but post on something once in a blue moon). Is anyone else also not seeing these comments or am I special?

Maybe you inadvertently blocked her? do you have your Facebook setting so you can “C “all comments?

Paste:: What's to be excited about? I don't see a dollar for air quality or better masks. Anywhere. I'm glad if other things are taken care of for staff — those are very, very important. But we are SUPER KIDDING OURSELVES if we think COVID is over, or that its impact next year will be equitable in any fashion. Not providing better masks to those who cannot afford them, not normalizing N95s and KF94s being handed out to those who need them most, is a major oversight. Not protecting staff from getting sick is pennywise/pound-foolish. Also inadequate: not improving air quality in rooms with less than one air change — which includes classrooms my kids are in right now! Glad for next year when my kids aren't in these rooms anymore.

I can't see her posts either. I never mute or block anyone. Is it possible she is hiding her posts from some people? Is that a thing?

If I didn’t GAF, I’d reply to her and ask if she needed any assistance in locating a therapist or psychiatrist. I reallly wish someone with more cajones than me would do so!!
