It's not going to last. They're able to do this because of the additional money available this year. A few more years when budgets tighten again, class size will be back on the table. People don't realize how much all the salary increases along with having to hire the necessary staff to ensure those small class sizes cost and will increase over the years.

Yes, and all the new development going is going to cause major increase to enrollment. Even if we have budget to decrease class sizes, we don't have the space. APS is a mediocre school district but will soon be just like Alexandria.

His presentation forecasts no rise in enrollment over the next few years.

Oh well if his presentation says so…

I’m confused over why pushing for better ventilation and filtration is bad. I don’t believe kids should wear masks. I always believed the mask mandate should be rescinded once the vaccine becomes available. I am also against preschoolers being masked. That being said I’ve always been for improving ventilation and filtration.

Do you post daily 10000 word diatribes on the subject?

It's not bad to push for that stuff. In this case, it's her complete dismissal of the entire budget merely because it does not address this one - debatably minor -issue.

But it’s probably correct. It takes time for what they’re building to actually be built, and then filled, and then for the kids to reach school age. And in the meantime, we have lost a lot of families to private school and they aren’t coming back, because while the pandemic drove them to private, they are finding even the BEST public is still not the same experience as private (people like to feel like they matter, and nobody matters to a public school they way they do to a place that exists based on getting those tuition $$).

^^Check AEM, February 24th, 738PM post. Anyway, her tirade is still there. 17 comments and 11 are HERS! For the love of God, if you are reading this, please stop with the barrage of opinion pieces. Form your own FB group!

For some reason, when I look at AEM on FB, it doesn't show in chronological order. Not sure if I have to change my settings to see things differently.

So either you blocked her or she blocked you. This isn't rocket science.

Do you see the smackajacka$$ comment?

You don’t understand. People move into affordable housing WITH school age kids. That’s how they qualify

You must be blocked. I just logged into the site and her comments - all of them including the ones in ALL CAPS (note: all caps means you are yelling at me) - are still there.

Anonymous wrote:Can we just note that crazy ventilation lady commented on anxious union teacher's post about it--all in hysterics about how unsatisfactory it was because it didn't have oodles of money dedicated to ventilation and masks? In all seriousness, if someone knows these two in real life, you should 100% ensure that they are connected to good therapists and psychiatrists.

Yes, I'm being petty and slightly off topic, but, these two are just off the anxiety charts.

I know one of them and a therapist and anxiety meds isn't all she needs and I have deep sympathy for her.

parts of the old aTS new Key have classrooms that need new systems. I think APS needs to evaluate that without covid consideration and not do sweeping changes like vent lady likes.

Also, that flat enrollment is BS. Obvs we have multi fam housing coming on but also, some people who went to private schools will come back when things normalize.

That said, if the teachers are happy with the budget, so am I. Happy teachers = happy students.

I think the long term enrollment projections are off but fine for next year. I don’t think we should get too bogged down for a budget process that happens every year. Keeping the schools staffed is very important right now!
