Women's Sports and Lia Thomas thread

How exactly are “women’s menstrual issues post-vaccine” not discussed in these many, many threads about them?

NP. I have followed each and every vaccine-related menstrual thread on this site (I even started one of them), and in the beginning, when women first started reporting issues, three threads in a row were removed for being suspected anti-vaccine propaganda. The fourth one stuck and there have been a few since. But it was incredibly frustrating back in April-ish 2021 when women felt they were being censored or called liars for sharing odd side effects.

Because for months, threads about the issue were deleted. Gone. Silenced. For months.

I wish there was a way to have a discussion about trans athletes, the zero sum nature of athletics, access to universities through athletics, and the history of white feminists/progressives not caring about issues of women of color, without attracting transphobes. I don’t think this is an easy issue no matter what the progressive party line is.

I thought the black athlete poster had some very thoughtful points and I am really sorry to hear that she had transphobic posts.

Seems like we are having a tough time avoiding them here too.

I have no idea how this post could be considered transphobic. I wrote it, and I was trying to NOT be transphobic. I guess maybe you never want transwomen athletes ever discussed at all?

I guess try harder next time?

Or, you know, you just could try to not be transphobic in general.

The first two were undeniably anti-vaccine. The third one was started by a poster -- possibly you -- who assured me that it would not be anti-vaccine and then it turned immediately to be anti-vaccine. This was equally frustrating for me.

Not true at all. I am always surprised at how willing posters are to tell outright lies.

You are a confused person.

Women's menstrual issues related to the vaccine were repeatedly discussed and continue to be discussed. Some threads were deleted for violating guidelines. The threads that followed the rules continue to exist.

I would love to be able to be able to host a respectful discussion about trans women athletes. Indeed, a 25 page discussion only ended when transphobes could not comply with the need to be respectful. There has been a repeated pattern in which posters try diligently to keep discussions civil and I expend significant efforts to assist those posters in maintaining civility, but transphobes ultimately make our efforts futile.

There are plenty of ad hominem attacks on people (women) questioning the validity of transwomen in women’s sports, but I guess those don’t matter?

Please define what transphobia means to you. Because I don’t think you know what it means.

I completely disagree, but whatever, it’s your site. I distinctly remember the feeling of immense relief I felt upon reading those first two threads and realizing I wasn’t the only one having unexpected side effects. I don’t expect you to get it.

What would have written if you weren’t “trying to NOT be transphobic”?

Transgender issues can’t be discussed on DCUM. Jeff has made that quite clear over the years. If you’re interested in the issue and women’s responses to it, check out Ovarit. This is simply not the place to have that conversation.

Radfemme also appeals to some of the posters here.

Definitely kicked off Reddit.

Very often, things don't exist in a simple binary. Like with many issues, where people stand on transgender issues is a spectrum. Just because someone is not standing exactly where you are on the spectrum does not mean that they are transphobic. Transphobes prevent civil discussions about topics such as the participation of trans women in sports, but so do those who are absolutists in support of the trans community. I would submit that someone who is "trying not to be transphobic" is infinitely better than someone who is quite happy to be transphobic. Let's encourage those who we believe to be on the correct path rather than discourage and insult them.

+1

There is literally nothing transphobic about that post.
Yelling “transphobe!”, though, is one of the ways people attempt to shut down any conversation that they think isn’t going their way. Pathetic.
