There are differences and it is unfair to women to ignore those differences, sex is still a protected class... This thread can't be appropriately discussed because if you have a difference of opinion you're automatically labeled transphobic or hateful or in my circles even worse .....Republican..
When we are just pro-reality |
Agree. At higher levels sorts are 100% about trophies/winning. Try telling an Olympic gold medalist that their win isn’t important. |
|
This is a backdoor method of killing title ix and women's sports.
|
So then push for increasing opportunities and equity. That will help significantly more women (including women of color) than excluding a handful of transgender athletes. |
You think the thousands of athletes who didn’t win a gold were wasting their time? |
Pro-women groups are pushing for more access. More funding for women’s sports. That will actually help more women from disadvantaged backgrounds. |
DP. Sure. Let’s all hope they succeed. But until then, what result? How many of the limited existing opportunities for elite women athletes should go to transwomen? |
Of course not. But they’re TRYING to win it, which is the point. |
|
I would appreciate a real answer to this. |
No, that’s not “the point”.
https://olympics.com/ioc/olympic-values -Striving for excellence and encouraging people to be the best they can be. -Celebrating friendship, which is quite unique to the Olympic Games – an event that brings people together every few years. -Demonstrating respect in many different manners: respect towards yourself, the rules, your opponents, the environment, the public, etc. This is the idea of setting your rivalries aside. There is more that unites us than divides us. Olympism is a philosophy of life, exalting and combining in a balanced whole the qualities of body, will and mind. Blending sport with culture and education, Olympism seeks to create a way of life based on the joy found in effort, the educational value of good example and respect for universal fundamental ethical principles. The goal of the Olympic Movement is to contribute to building a peaceful and better world by educating youth through sport practiced without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play. |
So some anomalies are ok, but others aren’t? Seems a little bigoted to me. |
Omg you REALLY think no one cares about the medals?!? If that’s not what the Olympics are about, why even have them? Let’s just all get together for a fun filled two weeks of enjoying sports - no medals necessary. As a matter of fact, let’s let EVERYONE compete in the Olympics - no need to qualify anymore. After all, it’s not about winning, right? My god you really can’t make this sh!t up. |

Medals are a fun perk for a small % of Olympians but they aren’t “the point” of the games.
|
If you truly believe that, there is no rational conversation to be had here. |
