Like most AAP kids, I don't think he got better in Citizenship... AAP just doesn't really count it. Which is a shame... Life, Work, and Citizenship Skills Takes responsibility for actions Demonstrates active listening skills Works effectively within a group Resolves conflict effectively Identifies, pursues, and reflects on goals Follows directions Exhibits organizational skills Completes assignments on time Uses time constructively Is a respectful and contributing participant in school Demonstrates self control Follows established routines |
All 2s in behavior would be a red flag to me. What were his issues then? |
| OP Contact the Teacher and ask what is going on and what you can be doing at home to strengthen in that area. Kids get 2s but that is a sign that they are struggling with something. |
NP - you sound like you have an AAP ax to grind. This is on all the ES report cards including those with AAP services. I would think 2s in math/LA or repeated 2s in behavior warrant a conversation with the teacher. |
This seems to be the case with my kid (and we're starting the process to get help on that front). Mostly 4s in academics, but some 2s in citizenship. |
| My child got 2s in reading and math and we are hiring tutors. |
| My son got 2s and 3s in Life and Citizenship categories pretty regularly until 5th grade. But we always had good communication from the teacher about skills he was working on (self-control, listening, etc.) and they were always positive conversations. |

If there are 2’s, there are issues.

My 5th grade AAP DS got a couple of 2s in effort categories. 3s and 4s for the actual academic grades. I did email the teachers and the story is that he's rushing through work and not putting in the effort that he's capable of. It's a consistent problem and we're working on strategies.
He used to get 1-2 2s in the citizenship areas pretty consistently but that's improved. |
Yes, also, it's a little different this year as kids are trying to catch up after distance learning last year. My 3rd grader typically gets 3s and 4s but has gotten 2 2's (both in writing) this year for the first time and it's because she basically did no writing in 2nd grade after learning about Google's dictation service and doing all of her writing online. She's got a LOT of catching up to do in writing. Her teacher flagged in Q1 and we got a tutor. A 2 should definitely warrant at least an email to the teacher. |

2 - Sometimes demonstrates concepts and skills of standard taught this quarter

Teachers do keep in mind distance learning from last year. Not all kids are behind or getting 2s. Why didn't you help her with her writing so she wouldn't fall behind? |
| 2-3 is the norm, but it’s also a bit subjective. It’s really just an indicator of developing skills and the needs for support. |
Yes, they are the norm. The kid is meeting academic expectations. |
Correct. A 4 would mean the student is consistently showing understanding while needing no support. Many need some support. |
