Yes. |
| My 4.5 year old has ugly SDF staining on his front teeth and only a handful of times have older kids mentioned it. Young kids don't notice at all. |
Ok that is helpful to know. |
My daughter is very afraid of needles for her most recent vaccines. I'm worried she will freak out if its too painful. She is to have nitrous to calm. |
| My five-year old had laughing gas and it was no problem at all. He felt strange as the freezing was coming out so I would prepare with smoothies, milkshakes. As a PP said - I was also really stressed about the esthetics and it has been a non-issue at school. I've noticed most kids that age have some pretty messed up teeth as they fall out, adult teeth come in. Don't stress op- much better to get it done and keep it safe. |
| My just turned 8 year old had to have one place earlier this month. She got nitrous (chocolate "flavored" which she loved), and she didn't even notice the novacaine needle, tbh. Procedure wasn't bad at all. She did have some soreness for a few days afterwards, which was more significant than a filling, but it was ok. |
| Had it done and I think it looks awful. And my daughter hates it |
| Wish I didn't choose the crown 😕😕😕😕 |
| How long did it take for your child to get used to the crown? |
| Unfortunately this thread has now been buried in the health group and now no new replies 😕. My daughter had this done and 2 weeks out she really dislikes it, as I expected might happen knowing her personality. Anyone have a similar situation? |
| My kid had it. I was totally against it and demanded the tooth-colored crown. Can't remember why she couldn't get the tooth-colored. Time flew, the teeth fell out, and now it's a distant memory. I don't think anyone noticed. |
Ok. I am looking forward to it being a distant memory 😕 I'm just thinking it will be 6 or 7 more years until this tooth falls out. It is noticeable I think in person and in photos. (When she smiles or talks as 5 year olds do excitedly. ) It is on the first molar on the lower right. Maybe if it was the molar behind that it wouldn't be as noticeable. She is hoping the dentist will remove it at some point soon even though we've told her it will be when she loses her tooth. She doesn't like it and I feel terrible. |
My 10 year old DD has had a silver crown since she was three. It’s the second molar but definitely still noticeable. She is self-conscious about it. Kids do ask her about it out of curiosity. I don’t think anyone has been mean or teased her about it. |

BS to the dentist. Get another opinion and find a new dentist.
My 7 year old (at the time, now 10) got a tooth colored crown and I barely notice it. His dentist was experimenting and had recently started offering the tooth-colored. More expensive but we got a discount. |

I am in the same boat for my almost 6 yo daughter. She needs a crown on the first molar in the top. Our dentist who is amazing won’t do tooth colored ones. She explained that she has tried them in the past and too frequently had issues with them. She said they aren’t as durable so with how rough kids can be, it was not uncommon for them not to last until the tooth fell out. She also seemed to express that something about them is more difficult to actually do from a dentist’s standpoint and she wasn’t as comfortable. in light of that, she ultimately decided to stop offering that option. However, she referred us to another dentist she highly recommended who does do them and has had more success than she has.
We have decided to get the tooth colored one done with the other dentist. I saw a pp mentioned that a tooth colored one requires a root canal? That’s not true- at least not in our circumstance! We accept the risk that it may not last until the tooth falls out and we will need to do it over again. My daughter has been wayyyy ahead of typical timelines for losing her teeth (she already lost 7 and 6 of the adult teeth are either fully or more than half way already in and all her 7 year molars are fully in. In light of this, we and her dentist anticipate she will likely lose the first molar around 8-9years old so there is a strong chance the tooth colored crown will keep until the tooth falls since it’s only 2-3 years. |
