My vaccinated kids had covid over break. The masks are purely decorative at this point.

People like you is why I pulled my kid from ACPS this year in part because of its poor COVID mitigation approach. Otherwise, I would have to do everything I could to fight your “fight to death” in favor of extreme selfishness and putting your child, your child’s classmates and teachers, and the community at large at risk.

For heaven's sake. You are arguing over sending a kid in with a cloth mask versus an N95 mask? Are you one of those nutters who has been holed up in their homes for the past 22 months? Because you know that if you venture outside, then you will put your family and "the community at large" at risk?

No, I have not been holed up in my house but I also have not acted like the pandemic does not exist or is over. Yes, I would fight over K95s for student (or at least a surgical mask. This is based on the higher transmissibility of the Omicron, the better understanding of the limitations in value of cloth masks, and the much higher availability of K95s (or at least surgical masks) than at beginning of the pandemic (the scarcity drove the recommendation of cloth masks at the beginning of the pandemic. My child’s current school is requiring N95s/K95s or a three ply surgical mask and I am happy with that requirement. It is nice to see ACPS actually reacting to Omicron.

I would be fine with the requirement of paper surgical masks. But surely you realize that those are not very effective against Omicron either? So, at this point, it is all just for appearances' sake. If you have not been holed up in your house for 2 years, then you have contributed to the spread of the virus yourself. So I think you should hesitate to feel holier than thou.

Since neither I nor any of my immediate family have contracted Covid (knock on wood) I am not sure how I have contributed to the spread of the virus.

I have done my best to follow the governmental and scientific advice/requirements and try to follow the news on the pandemic developments and understanding of Covid. If that makes me holler than thou,” than so be it.

How do you know that you (or any of your family members) never contracted Covid? Did you all undergo weekly testing? Think of all the asymptomatic cases.

The only adults who "can't tolerate these (masks) for an hour" are the mentally ill. Since you're willing to "fight to the death over requiring these (masks) for kids to wear all day" it surely sounds like you, indeed, are mentally ill. Please get help for yourself so that you can be a better person and a better parent.

Fine. Am I absolutely certain that my immediate family has not contracted Covid? No.

But, the times where any of us have either experienced colds or were in proximity to someone covid positive, we have been tested and have been negative for each test. In Alexandria, the Curative booth at Charles Houston is a pretty convenient place to get a PCR test with relatively quick results.

Many privates had this policy in September. MCPS has made a similar announcement today. Too little, too late, IMO.

So no weekly testing. Then, as I said before, if you went out into society (visited with friends/family, sent your kids to in-person school, sent your kids to after school activities, traveled, picked up food in restaurants, went grocery shopping, went to the gym, etc), then you could have easily passed along Covid. Which is fine... now that we have access to vaccines. But please do not pretend that requiring ACPS kids to wear N95-type (or even surgical masks) will have any measurable effect on community spread at this point.

I did not easily pass on Covid because as I noted, it is highly unlikely I had Covid despite not meeting your requirement for weekly tests.

Also, I do not see how you have any basis for contending that better masking at ACPS will not reduce the potential of spread.

^^^ Highly unlikely? Do you not see all the posts these last several months from people being so surprised about asymptomatic Covid?

But I can tell that you are set in your view that your socializing was not problematic... it was just other people's. I will leave you to it.

Cloth masks are decorative. Higher quality medical-grade masks work, hence why medical professionals wear them.

Yes, this is my point. My vaccinated kids JUST got over Covid, so they don't really need to wear masks, as they are pretty immune at the moment. So the decorative cloth masks will work just fine for appearances.

They can still get the other variant of the two that are still circulating. And even if they were completely immune, that's mighty self-entered of you. Your kids are lucky, though! N95s are way more comfy than cloth
