Private & Independent Schools
I wouldn't praise a HS dance as being "handled well" if (a) over 1000 kids showed up, (b) two had to be transported to the hospital, (c) the dance had to be ended early and (d) the cops were called. |
| Are you serious, Landon students aren't allowed to invite their public school friends. If true that is outfuckingrageous. |
Why? Because they might set a bad example for the private schoolers? Please. |
| It's the usual practice at area schools, to invite just certain schools. It can't be a party open to all high-schoolers; that would just be unmanageable. |
|
How can you possibly say Landon handled this well?
First of all, this dance was open to all. Everyone who looked like a student and had $5.00 could get in. This was a first for Landon and bet they don't do this again. Also, if 2 or 3 students were hospitalized, ambulances, police and parents were called, I can't believe this was a success. I think it was out of control before the doors opened. |
| What will Landon do next to raise money?! |
| If you think this was the first high school dance where kids have been caught drinking, you must not have kids in high school. |
| Just haven't heard of 2 or 3 kids going to the hospital at one whack... |
| Yeah, alcohol poisoning isn't your garden-variety HS-aged drinking. |
| Gotta wonder how they got there in the first place, if they were already drunk. |
| Anyone know what school the hospitalized kids were from? Landon or elsewhere? |
I know a kid from a big 3 school that this happened to a couple of years ago. I'm afraid drinking is pretty common. Plus there is "pregaming" where they drink before they get to the dance. So even if the dance is well monitored some kids may be drunk before they get there. |
| Sounds like they let one of the clubs hold a dance as a fundraiser. They tried it a few years ago, had a similar result and didn't do it again for years. Sounds like a repeat. |
| Any other details about the dance surface we should be aware of? |
| No one--especially Landon--can monitor this many kids. Why did they attempt this sort of event? |
