Gaza War, Part 2

I have come to the conclusion that the western civilized world just cannot comprehend the Middle East
Israel is incredibly inward focused, not something the rest of the world or anyone can identify with
I would like to understand it better, but the fanatics here in dcum are one of a kind

First idf said they were militants who surrendered, then they said, suspected Hamas militants, then it came to light some are doctors, journalists, artists, then the story evolved to just militants, then buried at the bottom of the latest article it states they will not be moved to Israel bc they are likely civilians who had been sheltering at a Un school. IDF and their propaganda. They are truly evil.

So what's the problem exactly? If they have been ascertained to be civilians and will be freed?

Yes, yes, of course ... let's normalize intentionally humiliating others, depriving them of their liberty, and then we can uncork some faux outrage when they have the audacity to bite back at us.

The first problem is the assumption that all men remaining in the north are Hamas. Not everyone had the means or ability to flee. And frankly, where to. The bombardment in the south is ongoing and brutal.

The second problem is the humiliation imposed on civilian men. The picture of the men kneeling next to the ditch was taken from a soldiers social media page. This was done to degrade these men.

Third problem is how the men were taken:

IDF soldiers entered the area and used megaphones to order the men from their homes and UN relief agency (UNRWA) schools.

The IDF ordered women in the area to go to a nearby hospital and later threated to shoot them if the men did not come out of their homes, he said.

The fourth problem is that IDF said they were hamas militants who had surrendered. Now they are civilians forcibly taken from a UN school. Please remember that when you hear anything from the IDF. They lie. A lot.

Ok you are going to say next they were humiliated so now they can't help but become terrorist (aka liberators).

Eliminating Hamas completely was never an attainable goal and the longer this goes on the more it erodes its position and loses the original moral clarity that it had. It's getting harder and harder to picture tomorrow. Hopefully they can eliminate, or better yet capture, Sanwar soon.

Put him on trial. Give him the full Eichmann and make him the scapegoat. Then try and do the same to the political side for financing him.

They need to figure out a way to end this that doesn't rely on the Palestinian population unconditionally surrendering en masse or ethnic cleansing. Heck, could they even handle every Gazan personally surrendering. That's 2 million prisoners.

What is the exit strategy? At some point there will be nothing left to bomb. Do they have any idea how bad it is going to look when this is over and there's over a million people in UN tent cities? Of course the FM has also accused the SecGen and UNRWA of being allied with Hamas. Israel needs a concrete goal to end this on.

They do not need an out they seem to be ok with their strategy. Palestine should surrender, why not?
Palestine supporters you need to understand--maybe there are some out there who just don't agree with you. What you want to happen, we don't want to happen. And not, it not a Jews vs rest of the world thing. Given the small number of Jewish people in the world, I can guarantee that there are more non Jews who do not align with Palestine's goals than Jews (and there are some Jews who support Palestine's efforts--they all do not think alike).

The civilized world that threw atomic bombs at Japan and created phosphorus bombs that can melt and burn skin and leave no identifier but teeth. That civilized world is who Israel relies on for weapons . The civilized country that created a British Mandate and encouraged Ottoman uprisings by supporting both Jewish and Arab nationalist and independence movements in the same freaking state. Israel and Saudis and others would’ve long sought peaceful solutions if not for the civilized worlds trappings of weapons galore . Nobody in the Middle East was a gun enthusiast or used armored tanks or fighter jets until the civilized world taught and trained armies to do so

I think Israel is struggling with confirmation bias. They want to confirm so badly to the world their convictions that Hamas uses Un schools, hospitals etc so they’re looking for anything concrete they can get . There’s no other reason why they’d round those men up and strip them thinking they were Hamas because they were hiding at a UN school. Who wouldn’t hide there if they hear bombs going off in their own neighborhood ? A UN school is likely the safest bet though not always

Or, Hamas doesn’t wear uniforms and does hide among civilians, so you’ve got to take no chances.

Israel is going so Old Testament on Gaza.

It’s not a good look.

Is 10/7 a good look for Hamas and the Palestinians and Hamas supporters who literally cheered in the streets, social media, and elsewhere at the slaughter and kidnappings of innocent Israelis? You do remember 10/7, right?

Obviously I remember 10/7, fool — it was the first “eye.”

Remember but don’t care, do you? Inference isn’t your thing, is it … fool?

I can’t stand Hamas and I can’t stand Israel’s response. I actually don’t have to like either side!

+1. Similarly I can feel pain for the beautiful innocent victims of 10/7 and the equally innocent victims of Israel. It is ok to feel for human suffering and wish fur your country to be in a place to alleviate it.

The 10/7 victims WERE Israeli.

Yes. Of course they were. I am saying I can feel for the suffering of all victims here.

We have no proof they have been released. They are most likely dead. These educated civilians are high priority targets for Israel and the US.

No it is more simple. They want to depopulate Gaza. You remove civilians infrastructure making it impossible for people to live there. They have target these thing from the beginning.

Yes, just some peaceful noble savages until that nasty dirty overeducated West taught these simple people how to form tribes and go to battle

You should read some history PP. Or even just read the Hanukkah story.

Well that's wonderful - but I hope you can also understand how one side has vowed they will not stop until the other side is wiped off the face of the earth. And that's not such a kumbaya sort of thing to promise. It's the kind of thing that leads to an outsized military reaction.
