Your distortion of what’s been posted is, sadly, par for the course.

Where was “palestine” referenced?

But what do you mean by a “right”? Nobody has a right to live in a specific place. Can you just awake from a fever dream and begin organizing a group of people to immigrate to a region thousands of miles from where your family has lived for thousands of years, showing up to announce that you have a right to the land? That seems … I guess, insane?

One can follow the laws and, if the laws permit, acquire a “right” to live there. That’s it.

Thank you! Great post. That’s exactly what Zionists did. Came to Mandated Palestine, acquired land from local land owners, waited 50 years for the establishment of the State of Israel by UN.

Is that the full extent of what they did?

No, they also built a great country in a place where there was nothing but a desert. A country with a high standard of living, great medicine, military, tech and personal freedoms for people who are disfranchised across the Middle East. In 75 years, they were able to have a country that others would have taken centuries to build . Obviously such enormous success illicits jealousy from its neighbors.

Well, you conveniently overlooked the terrorism and massacring, but OK.

As far as the obvious pride with which you describe the achievements in the region, there are certainly many wonderful achievements that have bloomed from the State of Israel. Whether the majority of its citizens are indigenous or not, I think that’s a great development regionally.

I would, however, point out that foreign direct investment and extensive foreign aid from West nations fueled many of those achievements, and indirectly made possible most of the rest.

But I cannot deny recognition of the successes, so tip o’ the cap, for sure.

For: 2-state solution, right to live in peace for both the State of Israel and the second state (it might have to be Jordan); safety for both Jews and Muslims in the U.S., able to attend school and move around without feeling the threat of violence.

Against: the tedious distortion of facts and circumstances by the knee-jerk anti-semitism gestapos running around here like lunatics.

Can you deny the billions of dollars that have flowed into Gaza and the WB from EU and the USA along with the Gulf nations investments? I agree with all you said up to

Against: the tedious distortion of facts and circumstances by the knee-jerk anti-semitism gestapos running around here like lunatics.

Your true colors are shining through. Under the guise of moderation, two state solution, humanism, etc all you are is an anti semite, requiring pro Israel posters with Gestapo. Wondering what should we equate the pro Palestinian crowd with ? With the Glory to our Martyrs messaging.

Even an individual who just conceded that the two state solution would likely involve Jordan taking on the walking humanitarian crisis that has become the Palestinian people gets an unhinged screed and the anti-semitism flag thrown. It’s just a waste of time discussing the matter, but I guess that’s the point, right?

The status quo for you is A-OK. As long as nobody takes a peek behind the curtain or starts asking too many questions, all’s good, right? But if they do start to question what’s going on, just shout them down with the anti-semitism air horn.

Constant victimhood …

Guess what? I’m under no obligation to be Pro-Israel. As a matter of fact, I think the leadership of the State of Israel is comprised of some of the worst human beings to every stride this planet. I’m anti-that. The peaceful citizens? Sure, I’m pro-them. Settlers tormenting people who have already been ground into dust? Anti-them.

And especially the Bibi fanboys here in the U.S. who have the anti-semitism flag ready to fly for anything and everything? Anti-them always.

At some point, engagement must involve truth.

I don’t know who you think you’re addressing this to, but it certainly isn’t anyone on this thread.

Nothing in what that poster responded to said what they allege.

OK, time for the med line, sir or madam.

I don’t think this will have any impact on domestic politics. Both parties are totally servile to Israel. It’s frustrating. The only reason the media and people in general are suddenly aware of the Palestinians is the advent of social media.

This thread as a small microcosm and watching what has happened globally post 10/7 has made me a stronger supporter of Israel than I’ve ever been before, significantly so. Why? Because it is crystal clear to me now that if Jews do not have a strongly defended homeland, they will suffer another Holocaust. I did not realize how many people around the world existed that would explicitly cheer that on if it happened and in fact jump in to help. That has been a devastating realization.

Keep doing what you want, but when I read posts that come straight out of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, it teaches me nothing but support for Israel.

Same. I realize now I can’t just let my Jewish friends sort this one out on their own. Do I support the current government of Israel’s policies wrt to settlements? Hell no. But I support with my whole heart protecting the right of Israel to exist.

Yes. I despise Netanyahu and Likud. I want them out. But my eyes have been entirely opened to the number of people out there who would kill my friends and their children just because they are Jewish. I didn’t realize how bad it was.

I cannot believe how many grossly antisemitic posts I’ve seen here on DCUM, and I’m grateful to Jeff for his willingness to delete them quickly.

Ditto. I knew that antisemitism was alive and well but this is a whole new level. People have really come out of the woodworks on this one and the number of people who openly hate Jews is staggering. These people are r just using this conflict to openly flash their hatred. Both the far right and the far left have made it completely acceptable to spew hatred toward Jews.

The far right? What has Trump said? Gorka, Posobiec? Are they expressing hatred towards Jews?

You are frightened by protests? Should we stop protesting the dismemberment and starvation of children because some members of the community feel unsafe? Or is it just Saturdays that are off limit?

Depends what the protests are about. Definitely doesn’t seam like they’re calling for peace. Seeing a whole bunch of stuff calling for the obliteration of Israel which is indeed, scary.

The protests are calling for a ceasefire and rapid deployment of aid. I have not seen any act of violence in these protests, these are the most peaceful protests I have seen in the last decade. Fringe elements exists in every protest, not sure why you would be more scared of these protests than any other.

Here is an example of violence at the pro palestinian rally

https://www.ynetnews.com/article/hk60idrga

This is just one example but there were many across the country

Did you even watch the video? A fight broke out and most protesters rushed to stop it, including several pro-Palestinians protecting the couple. I am very sorry, but not surprised, that dueling protesters are getting into heated arguments and fights. Don't attend these protests if you feel scared.

DP. Nice "both sides" there.

A fight didn't "break out"--several pro Palestinian protestors attacked the couple.

"Don't attend these protests if you feel scared?"

Would you say that to any other group of people?

The elderly couple wasn’t attending. They were lost

Charlottesville. “Jews will not replace us.”

Trump: good people on both sides

Have you people really forgotten everything that happened between 2016 and 2020?

Israel is fighting a designated terrorist organization: Hamas.

Are you pro-terrorist or something? OMG.

Part of the problem is with pro-Israel people leaping to the conclusion that criticism of the Israeli government or observations about Palestinian suffering as functional equivalent of saying Israel doesn't have the right to exist or death to Jews.

I mean, there are definitely people who hate the Jews, don't think that Israel should exist, and want Jewish people to be killed. Those people are terrible. But it's tough to have a discussion when those with a more nuanced view of things are lumped in with the terrible people.

Similarly, there appear to be a fair number of pro-Palestine people who aren't contributing to a meaningful conversation either; equating belief that Israel should be allowed to exist with endorsement of concentration camps for Palestinians.

Yes. Israel has to soften the target. That includes taking out the means of communication.

Hamas has plenty of fuel, as is evidenced by the number of missiles they continue to fire.

This could end immediately if Hamas would surrender, return all hostages, and cease the non-stop bombing of Israel.
