Eh, every family has some dysfunction. Personally I think MM seems to be a driver of it at times. I think everyone can see that at this point.

MM might have her own dysfunction, in fact I'm sure she does. But trying to pin the absolute sh*tshow that is the BRF on MM is crazy. Their dysfunction loooooong predates MM. To me the biggest sign that Meghan has some serious issues is that she willingly married into that family, either not recognizing their dysfunction or thinking she could avoid it or do anything about it. A well-adjusted person would take one look at the situation and decide it's simply not worth it, even for a prince.

But MM's family dysfunction is like normal, middle class American dysfunction. My family is like that. Some people are more together than others and I would put Meghan in the "more together" side because she's financially independent from her family, has a functional relationship with one parent, and seems to be a decent parent.

Harry's family is insane and I think even the most functional members are mildly deranged because their roles basically demand it. The entire family is premised on a delusion wherein they get to take other people's money and occupy this weird, rarified role because *it's ordained by god.* Like... that's next level.

No one has blamed her for all of the dysfunction of a thousand year old institution. I do think she is a nasty, nasty piece of work regarding her sister in law, and so is Harry. If anything, I’d guess the uh “practicing” members of the BRF are thrilled that Meghan first took Harry off their hands and then isolated him. It’s a gift.

William has done far more to disregard Kate than anything Harry or Meghan have ever done. And the rest of the family treated her pretty horribly for the first years of their marriage.

The family is weird and it's like it's got psychotic hazing rituals for "outsiders" and people respect Kate because she tolerated them and found her way into the inner circle, and they resent Meghan for refusing to participate in the hazing and expecting to be treated respectfully from the beginning instead of having to "earn" her role through abject humiliation for like the first 10 years of her marriage, like Kate did. But I will never be mad at someone for refusing to deal with BS like that. I hate a clique.

Nice to read such hot verified insider info, sweet.

For the comments about how white women are the outliers in how Meghan is viewed, there’s Datalounge and Lipstick Alley, sites primarily used by gay male and Black female posters, respectively. They once seemed pro Meg and the worm has turned. She can’t keep a good thing going.

+1
And the family seemed to respect Will when he demanded better treatment for Kate, but laugh at Harry when he tried the same. That family is awful.

Maybe because I spend time on TikTok and gen Zs are always making fun of millennial beige and the kind of twee “bundles of flowers in mason jars” look that was big in the 2010s. But I just kept thinking the whole thing was such a blast from the past- from the overly curated, instagram perfect styling to the empty platitudes about “we all can come together with love” or “wine night!”… it really seemed like something straight out of 2016. As a fellow millennial close in age to Meghan it was actually kind of depressing

The beige thing goes way back to her influence by Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, who died in a plane crash with JFk Jr in 1998. Bessette Kennedy was known for wearing Calvin Klein inspired outfits in beige and black Her style was very influential . There are photos of Meghan doing exact copies of the outfits.

Sure, but "sad beige" is also a trend, or has been throughout the 2010s before Gen Zs started clowning on it. https://www.today.com/parents/family/sad-beige-rcna65116

It has been a hallmark of elder millennial style, the pared down, all white/brown/beige monochromatic thing, matching the similar all white/brown/beige kitchen. And what once seemed kind of chic, new and fresh, now looks incredibly dated and like a throwback to the mid 2010s, which was Meghan's heyday. Anyone who stays on top of trends knows that this kind of thing looks very out of date now and Gen Zs are always making fun of these stylistic choices. And for good reason- once you kind of pan out you realize how kind of ridiculous and overly stylized/ self conscious it often looks.

I don't personally think her style is dated. It reads more quiet luxury than sad beige.

With that being said, as a fellow millennial, I can appreciate Meghan sticking to her style rather than changing. As you get older you kind of learn what works for you and gain confidence to avoid overhauling your style every time trends change. She's in ankle jeans and a button down, it's not like she's in a J. Crew bubble necklace or something extremely dated.

I also do think this is one of those areas where she would never win and if she tried something excessively trendy she'd be made fun of for trying too hard.

It is very dated though, and you being a millennial may blind you to that fact since it's a style you still enjoy. In the way that plenty of boomers will still walk around thinking their outfits from the 80s or 90s are really cool, when it dates them and gives away their "era".

Nothing wrong with having a personal style. But you can still update things, keep them fresh, and move with the times- or hire people to style you if you cant figure it out yourself. ESPECIALLY if youre going to position yourself as some kind of leader in the aspirational lifestyle industry. Most people dont want to be walking around wearing a style that is a good decade or so passe.

Please give detailed examples of how to “update” and “freshen” the aesthetic of the show. I would love to hear what is considered updated.

The show to me reads as blandly pleasant. It’s the entire curated concept of a lifestyle show that seems dated more so than the details like clothing.

Seriously. I don't understand how straight cut jeans and a button down are "dated." She just dresses like a normal rich mom, which she is. It's millennial because millennials are moms now.

LOL. That's because you are a millennial! Dont you get that? In the same way a boomer isnt going to understand how their look is dated either. There are plenty of hip looking rich moms, not everyone is wearing what was en vogue in 2015.

OK, but I see Gen Z in the Metro wearing pants cuts and sweater styles that my mom wore in 1985. It absolutely floors me. It legitimately looks like they took one of my mom's outfits from the Sears Cheryl Tiegs catalogue.

I'm sure our resident Stacy London here will have an explanation shortly about how that's chic but Meghan's Cartier watch screams nouveau riche and millennial or some shit, idk.

Stacy London? Damn. Talk about dated references... you must be over 40.

DP Are you experiencing a midlife crisis? What is with the hyper fixation on things being dated?

I missed the memo where you can't even make an older reference lol.

I'm not, but you appear to be going through one whenever anyone points out (rightfully) that your clothing and references are dated. What's wrong with that? You're allowed to proudly walk around in your millennial page and have everyone able to pin your age, in the same way a 65 year old woman can waltz around in their QVC comfort sweatshirt and not be surprised that people pin her for being a grandma. You speak and dress with a very distinctive time/era/middle aged vibe. What's the issue?

I think there is a lot more than a comfort sweatshirt that would pin someone as a grandma.

You’re hilariously fixated on this. Are you one of those people who actually reads those ads that tell you things like stop carrying around a bag at a certain age and takes them to heart?

No, just someone who has a bare minimum ability to observe fashion trends and generational tendencies. That's why it's so amusing watching you crash out- you really thought there was nothing dated about your skinny jeans and ballet boots, and cannot stand to have someone point out that your style is passe now. Are you one of those people who genuinely believed that they could pass for ten years younger?

Writing all this and accusing someone else of crashing out is insaneeeeeeeee

It's the truth! Y'all wouldn't be going on and on and on and trying to defend yourselves and arguing that chambray is still cool for pages if you werent crashing out. That's what a crash out is, my love.

No one has argued that chambray was cool! You are the only one mentioning chambray shirts!

Yes someone was mad about chambray shirts being brought up, lol. I'm sure they thought they looked *very* hip and avant garde in their chambray

It matters where you are too. Chambray is preppy, timeless California casual.

it's really not. Chambray is super dated, especially in the styles that were popular for millennials.

Jeans and button downs have been around forever. They are classic and there’s nothing wrong with that. Not everyone feels the need to be dressed on the cusp of fashion every day. You’re ridiculous.

But if you insist, you can find a chambray button down at The Row right now for $1350.00.

DP. Thank you for defending the chambray! Obviously it can be styled to look more modern, and despite what PP said, no one on here claimed that a chambray shirt with skinny jeans/leggings was the height of current fashion. She makes stuff up. Nutty.

- millennial who will never ever toss her well made Ralph Lauren chambray button down

This. Chambray is alive and well on the Ralph Lauren website. Safe to say chambray never goes out of style.

https://www.ralphlauren.com/search?q=Chambray&br=t&fq=CatalogCode%3A%22Polo%20Shirts%22%20OR%20%22Pants%22%20OR%20%22Casual%20Shirts%22%20OR%20%22Dress%20Shirts%22%20OR%20%22Dresses%20%26%20Jumpsuits%22%20OR%20%22Blazers%22%20OR%20%22Bedding%20Collections%22

It absolutely does go out of style. Just because something is sold at Ralph Lauren hardly means it's avant garde, lmao.

lol, right? Ralph Lifshitz is 85 years old and most of his brand is outlet store garbage at this point.

Lolol. Girl, you keep moving to goal posts. Who said anything about avant garde? But because I got time today. This stuff isn’t my style, but clearly chambray is still a thing.

So "free" from the Royals yet talentless Megan (and Harry) have done nothing but try to money grab off Royal clout and Megan was literally just on this show chastising her "friend" demanding she call her by a Royal title she does not possess. The common denominator in 44 years of messy toxic drama is Megan. The Royal family's intuition about Megan turned out to be 100% accurate.

Harry and Meghan are the dysfunction in their families. They have rewritten their histories so many times they don't even seem to know what their life experiences have been to date.

And one of Meghan's big complaints was that the BRF tried to take her name and her identity. Yet now that is what she wants?

I find Meghan defenders confusing. The fact that some people can't see the fakeness and lack of authenticity and are so excited to buy her spreads and think she is a real beekeeper and are mesmerized by her blowing up a balloon or putting fruit on a tray is baffling to me.

Do you, got time [sic]? Nobody is buying that crap you posted. It will be 50% off then dumped at their outlets or burned. Megan is bottom rung commoner, an opportunistic shyster who tries and fails to look old money Cali or whatever awful aesthetic she's trying. I also bet every stylist in her orbit hates her, so I wouldn't be surprised if they purposely passively-aggressively make her look like a middle aged train wreck.

This. Chambray is alive and well on the Ralph Lauren website. Safe to say chambray never goes out of style.

I find Meghan defenders confusing. The fact that some people can't see the fakeness and lack of authenticity and are so excited to buy her spreads and think she is a real beekeeper and are mesmerized by her blowing up a balloon or putting fruit on a tray is baffling to me.

Right? Sounds like mental illness.

Anonymous wrote:Did anyone else find Meghan’s aesthetic incredibly dated?

Nutty.

It absolutely does go out of style. Just because something is sold at Ralph Lauren hardly means it's avant garde, lmao.

The Row is also selling them. But you self-prou fashion people need to stop using trendy, outdated, and avante guard interchangeably. You are exposing yourself as trolls. Not only do you keep moving the goal post, you sound completely insincere when you expect someone making candles in their craft cottage to be dressed in avant guarded fashion.

It is a dated style whether you like it or not. You are so upset because you're probably still wearing statement necklaces and leggings with oversized sweaters and boots and cant stand the realization that you look old and dated. Ralph Lauren selling one piece of chambray does not make the look any less dated, lmao

Again, no one on here claimed skinny or leggings or whatever was super fashionable. No one, despite what you keep claiming over and over. And fwiw, no one here seems to care that you think these items are cool or not or that we are dated or not. You’re clearly NUTS

This is just flatly false. They are both the children of divorce. Harry's dad famously cheated on his mom and it came out in the most humiliating and awful way via the tabloids. And now that woman is his stepmom! Harry was born into major dysfunction PLUS lost his mom in a violent and untimely way when he was still a child and then was paraded out on TV for the entire globe and used as a proxy for everyone's weird, parasocial relationship with his mom for years. And it honestly sounds like both Meghan's parents had mental health issues and at various points she was basically abandoned by each of them while they went off and tried to figure their sht out. Meghan's dad's family has a ton of major issues that obviously have nothing to do with her -- M's half sister has had her custody revoked, for instance. Do you know how bad of a parent you have to be to lose custody of your kids?

Meghan and Harry have their issues but the idea that they are the source of all the problems in their respective families is laughable. I don't care if you like them or not, they both were dealt kind of a crap hand in terms of families. I think it's no wonder they fell for each other and have leaned into their relationship and away from family members.

Isn't her legal name Rachel Markle? Megan is her middle name. That's not really cosplaying.

The point is her legal name is not actually Sussex as was claimed in a huge moment on the show.

She didn't make any claim about her legal name, she just stated that she identifies as "Sussex" not Markle. And then provided an explanation as to why. The fact that some of you are flipping out about this says much more about you than her.

I don't even think it was a "huge moment" on the show. It was a very brief conversation. YOU have made it a huge moment because for some reason it's very important to you that Meghan be forced to use her maiden name forever even if she doesn't want to, which is deranged.

But it's not her maiden name, lol. It's her current legal name, and the name of her kids as well. They have "Markle" on their birth certificate. At no point did she ever change their name to Sussex, which would be very bizarre considering it's no one's legal name in the family.

It is definitively her maiden name. Some women keep their maiden name. It sounds like Meghan does not want to keep hers but that there may be an issue with what she changes it to because the naming conventions in her husband's family are weird.

But I don't think it would be "bizarre" in that situation to simply legally change everyone's last name to Sussex.

This is actually a relatable problem to me because I had issues with my name when I got married and it was also hard to get people to call me by my new name (hyphenated) because people are stubborn and weird. The whole thing winds up being political and annoying when, hello, it's my name and you should call me what I tell you my name is. I did ultimately change my name legally but it took a while and in the meantime, I 100% expected people to call me by my newly adopted name, not my maiden name. So I'm totally on Meghan's side here. It is not some "gotcha" that her chosen name may not be her legal name. That's paperwork. Call people what they ask to be called or GTFO.

In any case, it is her current name, and the current name of her children. There is no legal precedent for her to change her name to Sussex. Of course she could, in the same way I could march down to the courthouse and change mine to Sussex. But it would be pretty bizarre of both myself and MM to do that considering it's not our legal name in any sense.

No, it would be normal for the Duchess of Sussex to change her and her kid's legal US names to Sussex as a way to simplify their names. People often make choices like this when navigating marital name conflicts or immigration naming issues.

It would be totally deranged for you to do so, as you are not the Duchess of Sussex.

I think this is why you are so mad, actually.

Considering that Sussex is NOT a last name and the name of a geographical area, yes it would be pretty deranged. But yeah, maybe everyone should just change their name to it and we can all have a good laugh.

The point is Meghan herself claimed that her name is Sussex. But ahe apparently does not use the name legally? It is very weird. I am going to change my name to "Princess Diana" but not legally. It will just be the name I declare for myself.

The difference here is that Meghan legally owns a title, the Duchess of Sussex, and many other people who have had the titles Duke of and Duchess of have used the house name as their surname, so Meghan does as well. Whereas you are not a Princess and your name is not Diana. So what Meghan is doing is normal and in keeping with the traditions of her husband's family, whereas you calling yourself Princess Diana would be psychotic.

And again, I think that's what bothers you. Meghan is actually entitled to style herself as Meghan Sussex because she is, in fact, the Duchess of Sussex. Just as other members of that family have done for years. But you aren't entitled to do so because you aren't a Duchess. This obviously makes you very, very mad for some reason.

OK I understand being entitled to use a name. I am married and could use my husband's name, but my legal name is still my maiden name. I do nor go around correcting people and saying my husband's name is my actual name. The reason I don't do that is his name is not my actual, legal name.

So the point remains that "Sussex" is not her legal name according to any documents. Her legal name is "Markle." So she lied about her name being Sussex. The point of lying was to have a "gotcha" moment with Mindy Kaling.

Lied about her name? Are you insane? EVERYONE knows her name. Meghan Markle Sussex whatever has out white womaned (yes made this up), white women. She is able to live the most white womanly life ever, while still enjoying the benefits being a POC. It is driving some of you crazy. Let this woman live.

Honey, what you don't get is that she doesn't want to live - she wants an audience and applause. She is addicted to attention.

Honey , let’s say that’s true. Why are the haters giving it to her? Why not just ignore her? Most actors want an audience and applause, why is her craving it so unique? That’s what’s weird here. Plenty of celebrities do exactly what she’s doing, but don’t garner nearly the same hate? Why is that? Genuinely curious. What about her perceived “addiction to attention” make white women so angry? Singly out white women, because no other race of women GAF about her or whatever it is she’s doing.

The obvious answer is her race. Why? Because plenty of women of both races do what she’s doing to gain fame and fortune, but of none of them is a black woman who married the most eligible man in the planet (at that time).

I'll answer this. Meghan is never happy with anything she has. She acts like a victim constantly. She was on the royal family and nothing they did was good enough. So she dropped out from royal life and continues to cry and play victim while still calling herself "Duchess." If the royal family was so terrible why does she want to use their titles, in the United States no less? The answer is that that is all she had going for her. Without the titles she is just like every washed up former actress who can't get a part anymore in Hollywood.

So she sits in her mansion, doing absolutely nothing to help the royal family, but claiming all the advantages of a royal title. I would despise any white woman who did this as well.

Really? Despise? I mean I know this is the entertainment forum, and a lot of waste a significant amount of time here, but “Despise”? I wouldn’t give anyone I don’t know the energy of me despising them.

Just for context, is there anyone else that you feel this way about? Someone you don’t know? I’m genuinely asking you this question. Not being sarcastic.

I don't think anyone hates her, nobody really cares about her. She's a transparently toxic middle aged women who conned some idiot Brit. When you obsessively seek attention, as she does, it invites scrutiny and commentary. She's free to live a quiet secluded life, she chooses not to. So when we see her embarrassing show on the netflix home page and see this thread, we are free to chime in.
