Looks like a new Gaza war has started

International humanitarian law and the Rome Statute permit belligerents to carry out proportionate attacks against military objectives,[17] even when it is known that some civilian deaths or injuries will occur. A crime occurs if there is an intentional attack directed against civilians (principle of distinction) (Article 8(2)(b)(i)) or an attack is launched on a military objective in the knowledge that the incidental civilian injuries would be clearly excessive in relation to the anticipated military advantage (principle of proportionality) (Article 8(2)(b)(iv).

Hamas is not a state or a government but terrorists. Technically it is not an armed conflict between to states/government per the Israelis.. So the law you site is not applicable. Now Israel using collective punishment, targeting civilians, denying food and water, targeting hospitals, churches, etc are war crime. Maybe we should just call the IDF a terrorist group?

So this is concern and means Hamas gets away with everything.

Hamas is the government of Gaza. They provide political oversight, lead institutions, and have a military wing.

But don’t you understand? They have zero agency and can do whatever they want.

How do you know that he was not targeted because Israel had information about him being involved in something? Also, why are you so one sided? Don’t see any posts by you about the atrocities that were done to Israelis.

Plenty of people are posting about the atrocities that were done to Israelis. Nobody is posting about this child. Sadly I am not surprised that you would find a justification for the murder. Israelis could literally kill a child in cold blood on video and you would excuse it. Oh, that's exactly what just happened.

Hamas could literally cut a pregnant woman open and kill her unborn baby and you would NEVER post that. One sided, like I said.

As I said, I wouldn't have to because someone else would beat me to it. But, unlike you, I wouldn't post an excuse for it.

You post pro Palestinian messages, exclusively. You have been doing this for years, on every Israel/Palestine thread. Just admit to having a bias. All of your pro-Palestinian messages a basically an excuse for October 7 violence.

I have never denied being supportive of the Palestinians. There is not much to praise about the current Israeli government and hasn't been for many years. I condemned the October 7 attack the day that it occurred. I have no problem condemning Hamas' atrocities but you can't bring yourself to utter the slightest criticism of Israel even when you see a 15 year old brutally murdered with your own eyes. I would argue that I am far more objective than you.

Jeff, I would just urge you to be more critical of what is coming out of Gaza. You were arguably too quick to accept that Israel bombed the hospital and targeted the church.

You also really didn’t seem to want to accept that Shani Louk had her bones broken and was almost certainly raped and tortured.

It seems like you have a fairly low evidentiary barrier for allegations against Israel. That’s all.

As I said, both me and Netanyahu's social media guy were on the same page about Israel having bombed the hospital. Israel did damage the church and killed many Christians. Whether they targeted the church or not is really not important. They are knowledgeable enough to that their attack would cause damage to the church and would have known that civilians would be there. That was considered acceptable. This last video is not from Gaza and was provided by an Israeli group.

Recognize that when it comes to the church being collateral damage in a strike on an enemy command center, that is consistent with international law. I’m sure you know that.

Maybe lawyering the issue helps with your conscience but the fact remains that an Israeli commander decided to that Christian non-combatants were acceptable to be killed. Moreover, what evidence is there that there was, in fact, a Hamas command center? Israel can hit any target it wants and simply say there was a military target near by and almost everyone will accept it.

Such a blatant lie. The church was not a target of the air strike. The wall of the church collapsed killing 16 people as a result of the air strike on a nearby terrorist command center. Was this avoidable? Yes, if Israel did not strike the command center. No one could have predicted that a wall would collapse.

That seems really disingenuous, and yes, the world may need new language to address assymetrical warfare with support from the local populace: Taliban, Isis, Hezbollah. Islamic Brotherhood, Hamas... if the above doctrine is followed, it basically disallows any actions to uproot the terrorists. The best move is to stop them taking root in the first place, and what Israel is doing now is basically facing the fact that 'containment' of terrorists doesn't work. They tried that!

Of course the Israelis would have known what damage to expect and would have know there were civilians sheltering there. It is amazing that one minute the pro-Israeli folks are bragging about Israel's precision bombing and advanced technology and the next the are claiming the military has no idea what sort of damage its bombs will do. They have dropped thousands of the bombs and that's just since the 7th. They know exactly what damage to expect.

No state has weapons precise enough to eliminate collateral damage.

The US certainly doesn’t.

The video might be true. And if an innocent was murdered, it’s a crime and should be investigated as such. But you don’t know any of the back story to it or what the boy or the father were involved in or what information Israel was operating on. You are using this incident as a means to proving that Israel is evil and to justifying your own bias. I guess it makes you feel good about yourself, a White Savior Complex. You are not balanced at all and haven’t been in years of posts on here. You use your voice on this thread to incite anti Israel sentiment.

This. Pro-Israeli folks need to stop blathering on as if the bombing is a humanitarian act of good will.
