Perhaps for the dogma believers, but it's mostly nonsense when you consider how well so many immigrants do even when they come with zero wealth and frequently not even speaking English or having proper papers.

Well we do well because we do not take anything to chances because of the fear Michelle spoke about. We work 10 times harder than any other person in the same role. That is a lot of burden to carry our whole life.

That's not a "burden" but an opportunity the US gives us -- a much better opportunity that in most other countries, which is why we come here.

In the Michelle quote she was not comparing opportunities we had in another country to America. We are talking about inequality that still exists in America. I want to have the same opportunity, same second/third/fourth as an American as every other one. I want to have the same risk profile as white man and I would not ever have that. My racial identity does not allow me to learn from making mistakes and I spend a lot of my energy to be as close to perfection as possible in all aspect of my life. This is a burden not just on me, but my my children and their children!

That’s a you problem. Nobody told you to be a perfectionist to be accepted and it’s sad if you think striving for excellence in everything you do is a bad trait or that only white people can make mistakes. I don’t even get what that means. If you want to “make a mistake”, the party for you is the Dems. You can even abort your mistake on a bus for free if you qualify!

I am sure Barack and Michelle don’t think like that about mistakes and excellence. All the Democrat success story politicians used Republican ideals. I am also confused when the Dems say generational wealth= Republicans. Republican voters are largely poor. Trump voters are mostly poor not the moneyed elite. Trump is rallying at backwater towns in flyover USA, not at $25,000/plate Hampton and Beverly Hills dinner parties with donors .

The oligarchs/moneyed party and generational wealth party is the Democrat party. They get more donors and donations than Trump-largely from billionaires.

You have to be joking? Trump is courting money from big donors like Elon. He has to. He's got too many big legal bills.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trump-biggest-donors-far-much-110117997.html

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-liberal-san-francisco-high-dollar-tech-fundraiser-2024-06-06/

Venture capitalists David Sacks and Chamath Palihapitiya, as well as Sacks' wife Jacqueline, held the reception and dinner with Trump at the Sacks' swanky mansion in the Pacific Heights neighborhood, ...The gathering - where top tickets were $500,000 per couple - was sold out, a source with knowledge of the fundraiser told Reuters. It raised some $12 million, according to Republican National Committeewoman Harmeet Dhillon and another source.

Then there are those big corporations donation millions to Trump. They have basically bought Trump. You can assure that he will be looking after them more so than the guy who makes $25K year.

Remember when Miriam Adelson bought a presidential medal of freedom? It was much better than a congressional medal of honor

Oh yes, I couldn't remember her name, so omitted her. Thank you!

Harris and her team are talking about helping the middle class with higher wages, better working conditions. paid family leave, helping with college costs.. their message is uplifting. I watched a few of the speeches, and all of them talked about hope.

The RNC message is just pure anger and about religion. It's weird, especially given that Trump is not religious and his favorite verse is "an eye for an eye".

And I say this as a Christian.

By all appearances it seems everything was timed perfectly.

Go Kamala!

If anything about the 2024 election is "perfect" in your opinion, you are nothing more than a gullible sheep with no recollection of what it was like when we had two functioning major political parties and legitimate POTUS candidates.

There is a process for a candidate to leave the race at any point. It is rarely used but it exists for a reason. Honestly, if the GOP had any game left they would use it now to get a stronger candidate in place before they get badly beaten in November.

"Rarely" used?? Tell me you know nothing about politics without telling me you know nothing about politics. Never, ever before has such an underhanded tactic been used to avert an open primary because until recently we had two functioning political parties with politicians that did actually care more about their country than themselves. We have the god awful choice between Trump and the replacement candidate because we're stupid and gullible. Just because the truth hurts doesn't mean we should deny it.

I dont need to be some political expert to see that it is aggressive ugly game. I can see that the debate was disastrous for Biden and was going to negatively impact the chance for a Dem victory both at the top of the ticket and down ballot. I think Trump did terribly at the debate as well with his bit*hing and lying. But the media was merciless to Biden and ultimately he passed the baton to Harris who is now going to win the election so good for him.

Biden is a hero. He beat Trump in 2020 and his stepping aside ensures Trump will be beat back again in 2024. That is the most important thing this country needs to do right now. He made a gold medal pass of the baton to Harris and she is off and running to bring home the Gold.

I think most people are thankful Biden finally stepped away from the 2024 race and wish he had done it sooner so that we could have an open primary. Harris has a much better chance of beating Trump than Biden would have and relative to Trump and Biden, she can be trusted to be competent through 2029. Trump and Biden are already on the verge of incompetence. I can't imagine any American with an IQ over 90 voting for Trump or Biden in 2024. The last eight years have taught us that folks over the age of 75 can't be trusted to handle the demanding mental and physical tasks of the POTUS job.

+1 Former R turned I.

When Biden dropped out, I think there was a collective sigh from the D side, and anger from the R side, because now, they can't use "Sleepy Joe" attacks anymore.

Basically nobody cares if there was an open primary. That's a DC Beltway hangup.

No, that’s a Republican concern troll talking point.

Maureen Dowd had a column calling it a coup after she had been calling for the very same thing. Not sure if she's a Republican, but concern troll definitely fits.

Damn we have a good party.

The Clintons need to fade out.

Honest question, did the Republican convention have any former presidents, vice presidents or former nominees speak?

I mean...no. Trump's version of the GOP (MAGA) is a joke.

But mostly boring AF.

The DNC production is amazing. It makes me want to go to a convention and I hate conventions!

It is a great festival! Even some reporters were rocking to the music

I have a friend who is part of the press at the convention. I can't wait to hear stories. And I'm an Independent. That convention was fired up and just pure joy. Someone put a video up of the comparison of the roll call between the RNC and DNC, and oh my, how embarrassing for the Rs.

Settle down, princess. Primaries didn't start being a significant factor in picking Presidential nominees until well after Donald Trump was born.

I don't think she wins anything by getting more specific about policies right now to be honest.

The endless bleating about policies studiously ignores past electoral history. Voters very much don't care about details.

PBS did an interview of Nancy Pelosi during the convention. She expressed her confidence in Harris, which made me feel better about the possibility of winning this election. She also said Hillary was the most qualified president candidate in her generation, even better than Bill Clinton. Love her interviews these days.

The fact that you cannot discern between Trump and Harris is quite a tell.

Have to admit, he has a good point.

I don't know if there was a response to that, but it's important to say what each Republican and Democratic president started with, and what each had to work with.

Obama's term started with one of the worst financial crises in recent times. He had a cooperative house and senate for the first two years of his two terms, and an obstructionist one for the remaining 6 years. Obama passed a healthy economy and no major crises to Trump. Trump had two years of a cooperative congress and two years of an uncooperative one. He passed a botched COVID response and a nation in crisis to Biden, who also had two years of a cooperative congress. It's pretty easy to get stuff done when a) you're not starting in a hole and b) you don't have to deal with people who are not acting in good faith.

This is a good point that doesn’t translate into an easily digestible talking point so it’s often overlooked. What did you inherit and what did you have to work with?

Bush 41 - recession => Clinton - balanced budget and growing economy
Bush 43 - Economic collapse => Obama - growing economy
Trump - Economic collapse => Biden - Growing economy

Imagine if the Dems had 4-12 years with a House and Senate to actually accomplish things rather than just digging out of holes left by GOP presidents.
