By all appearances it seems everything was timed perfectly.

Go Kamala!

If anything about the 2024 election is "perfect" in your opinion, you are nothing more than a gullible sheep with no recollection of what it was like when we had two functioning major political parties and legitimate POTUS candidates.

Not sure, but Walz’ wife was shaking her head and mouthing, “that is so true.”

She seems genuine.

There is a process for a candidate to leave the race at any point. It is rarely used but it exists for a reason. Honestly, if the GOP had any game left they would use it now to get a stronger candidate in place before they get badly beaten in November.

You do not understand irony.

You are like Trump, in that the DNC is playing 3 dimensional chess compared to you.

Ballots are already being printed. It is a little late.

Damn we have a good party.

The Clintons need to fade out.

Honest question, did the Republican convention have any former presidents, vice presidents or former nominees speak?

I mean...no. Trump's version of the GOP (MAGA) is a joke.

But mostly boring AF.

The DNC production is amazing. It makes me want to go to a convention and I hate conventions!

Yes, the Planned Parenthood mobile clinic offering free abortions at the DNC is certainly something to celebrate.

It is better than the gun raffle that R’s had!

Being born into a family that cannot care for you is not doing any baby a favor.

I loved the DNC last night!

The state roll call was amazing. From Lil John working the crowd chanting "we're not going back" repping Georgia, to Wes Moore sharing MD being the proud birthplace of Harriet Tubman, Thurgood Marshall and Fredrick Douglass. To DJ Kool "let me clear my throat" to CA sharing music from CA born Dr. Dre and Kendrick Lamar.

And ending with two of the best speeches I've seen in my lifetime - Barack and Michelle Obama - reminding us how it's done and to "do something" because our fate is in our hands.

Whole family (3 generations) is fired up!

"Rarely" used?? Tell me you know nothing about politics without telling me you know nothing about politics. Never, ever before has such an underhanded tactic been used to avert an open primary because until recently we had two functioning political parties with politicians that did actually care more about their country than themselves. We have the god awful choice between Trump and the replacement candidate because we're stupid and gullible. Just because the truth hurts doesn't mean we should deny it.

Have to admit, he has a good point.

I don't know if there was a response to that, but it's important to say what each Republican and Democratic president started with, and what each had to work with.

Obama's term started with one of the worst financial crises in recent times. He had a cooperative house and senate for the first two years of his two terms, and an obstructionist one for the remaining 6 years. Obama passed a healthy economy and no major crises to Trump. Trump had two years of a cooperative congress and two years of an uncooperative one. He passed a botched COVID response and a nation in crisis to Biden, who also had two years of a cooperative congress. It's pretty easy to get stuff done when a) you're not starting in a hole and b) you don't have to deal with people who are not acting in good faith.

This is a good point that doesn’t translate into an easily digestible talking point so it’s often overlooked. What did you inherit and what did you have to work with?

I think most people are thankful Biden finally stepped away from the 2024 race and wish he had done it sooner so that we could have an open primary. Harris has a much better chance of beating Trump than Biden would have and relative to Trump and Biden, she can be trusted to be competent through 2029. Trump and Biden are already on the verge of incompetence. I can't imagine any American with an IQ over 90 voting for Trump or Biden in 2024. The last eight years have taught us that folks over the age of 75 can't be trusted to handle the demanding mental and physical tasks of the POTUS job.

Noooo. "Most people" are looking at this as the most astonishing change of fortune that we could ever have dreamed of. An open primary would have been ugly and split people up into camps. Dems are astonishingly united at this moment. Biden timed things perfectly, Harris launched her campaign perfectly - there's always room for things to go wrong, and we are not guaranteed victory by any means. But this is a real lightning in a bottle moment in our electoral history. Most people recognize that.

A tough primary is exactly what she needed to sharpen her debate skills and get her policies in order. Right now Kamala has zero training and will be expected to defeat Trump during the first debate in Sept when she hasn’t defended her policies or record during a primary season.

Primaries are there for a reason

We're going to have to disagree here. Primaries are usually there, in part, to weed out the bad candidates - those who looked good on paper and couldn't perform in real life. I think we're seeing, in real time, that Harris is very good in real life.

I don't think she wins anything by getting more specific about policies right now to be honest. And she was very good in the last VP debate. I'd guess she hasn't gotten worse since then.

I don't know if you're a wonky DC person who's worried about stuff that normal voters aren't that interested in - or a concern troll who's just wOrRieD AbOUt StuFF but either way - I don't think this would be going better than it is now, if we'd had an open primary; and I think it would likely be doing much, much worse.
