Agreed! Hopefully they can work "Butthurt" into my previous description of you. |

Disney World says they will now be putting up warning signs.
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/business/tourism/os-disney-alligator-attack-signs-warning-20160616-story.html And they have caught six gators so far. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/breaking-news/os-lane-graves-disney-gator-attack-20160616-story.html |
Simple-minded here. Subsequent remedial measures usually aren't admissible as evidence of negligence |
You're a little focused. You might want to put the keyboard down and back away. I don't think that person was arguing for evidence of negligence. I think it was just an update. |
New poster here as well - A million times yes! Remembering my then 3 yo playing for hours at both Polinesian's and Contemporary's beaches at the same lagoon (he actually preferred that to any of the parks' madness, go figure) it never occurred to me that "no swimming" was in any way connected to the presence of large gators in the lagoon - maybe some bacteria in the water or something like that but danger of the possible attack? And it also seemed like some temporary problem - if it is inherently unsafe why make it into beach in the first place as the PP pointed out? |

Question for the people who say the parents are not at fault... If a babysitter or nanny had let the little boy wade in the water and he was attacked, who would everyone be blaming? Wouldn't the babysitter take the heat for this?
An accident out of everyone's control would be a plane crashing into the hotel or hotel room. If you allow your child to do something and they become injured because you allowed it, is it not your fault? As terrible as it is, children rely on adults for direction in good and bad situations. If he had run off like gorilla kid... That would be out of the parents control but there's a difference between him running off and being allowed to go in because they were in the water. Do we know if he ran off or was given permission to enter the water? |
It sounds like the father was right there with the boy if the father got scratched by the gator. They had been seeing others in that water, they weren't out swimming in it. They were having carefree fun and then this unthinkable tragedy happened. If they had thought for a second that something like that could happen to their precious little boy they would never have gotten near that water. Now the rest of us can learn from it. That's all we can do with this heartbreaking lesson. |
I wouldn't blame the babysitter, either. I think it was a freak accident, but FFS, Disney knew there were alligators in that water and they didn't bother to inform their guests? This is a company that forces characters to throw up in their masks rather than traumatize children by seeing them take it off, and won't let employees point when they give directions because it's offensive. Come on. |
| If Disney knew about the presence of the large gators in the lagoon and the possible risks associated with it when they built several beaches around the lagoon at their most overpriced monorail resorts it is akin installing water fountains in Flint with "no drinking" on them when you know that the water was unsafe. |
Not really. Alligator deaths are extremely rare. |
From what I understand from alligator experts, if the father/another adult was right there with the child, the alligator probably wouldn't have attacked. The gator would have been scared off by the size of the adult. I think the boy was alone, but the parents were nearby and able to quickly go after the gator once they realized what was happening. The boy was the size of small prey and probably made splashes like small prey. |
The dad was right there, PP. We know b/c he was injured trying to save his kid. If he hadn't been right there, the alligator would have swam away too fast for him to actually intervene. Stop trying to make this the parent's or the kid's fault. |

For those of you who are interested in sending a donation.

A donation for WHAT? This family can afford to hold a funeral, and they will eventually receive millions from disney. People need to realize that wd don't need a gofundme for everything. Bizarre. |
My condolences to the family but why would they need assistance? They seem like a well off family. |
