My condolences to the family but why would they need assistance?
They seem like a well off family.

They need to pay for parenting classes.

An accident out of everyone's control would be a plane crashing into the hotel or hotel room. If you allow your child to do something and they become injured because you allowed it, is it not your fault? As terrible as it is, children rely on adults for direction in good and bad situations. If he had run off like gorilla kid... That would be out of the parents control but there's a difference between him running off and being allowed to go in because they were in the water.

Do we know if he ran off or was given permission to enter the water?

It sounds like the father was right there with the boy if the father got scratched by the gator. They had been seeing others in that water, they weren't out swimming in it. They were having carefree fun and then this unthinkable tragedy happened. If they had thought for a second that something like that could happen to their precious little boy they would never have gotten near that water.

Now the rest of us can learn from it. That's all we can do with this heartbreaking lesson.

From what I understand from alligator experts, if the father/another adult was right there with the child, the alligator probably wouldn't have attacked. The gator would have been scared off by the size of the adult. I think the boy was alone, but the parents were nearby and able to quickly go after the gator once they realized what was happening. The boy was the size of small prey and probably made splashes like small prey.

The dad was right there, PP. We know b/c he was injured trying to save his kid. If he hadn't been right there, the alligator would have swam away too fast for him to actually intervene. Stop trying to make this the parent's or the kid's fault.

Whether the child was 1 foot or 10 feet from the water's edge, the father was outside the water, not in it with the child. It's not the parent's or child's fault, but PP was simply pointing out that if X had been different...

People in Omaha are incredibly generous and will take care of this family. You have no idea how the family will use the money.

Bunch of cynical people here. I hope you never have a tragedy in your family that will cripple you emotionally and keep you from working and paying bills.

I doubt the parents themselves set up a gofundme page, but it does seem over-the-top considering they will get a large settlement from Disney.

We've seen alligators every time we've stayed at the Grand Floridian. I remember wondering why they had a "beach" when there were alligators in the lagoon. But there were "No Swimming" signs everywhere, though obviously alligator warning signage was needed. We saw alligators from our room & from the shuttle boat, so clearly they are around.

Gator signs are going up ASAP per CNN. They're getting their asses sued to Mars.

A family that can afford to stay in a 500 dollar per night hotel does not need a go fund me.

Putting up signs is good.

Their asses sued to Mars? What does that even mean?

I would imagine that if your income allows you to afford a $600 a night room, you'd have savings. But, what do I know?

The amount in the settlement will knock them out of Florida and into space?

Not necessarily.

We have stayed in those pricey resorts. We saved and it was a big expense that we slowly put money away for.

My husband is the breadwinner in our family. If he had been that dad and one of our precious boys died in that way with my husband close enough to fight the gator but not strong enough to rescue our baby, i doubt he would be able to function for a very long time let alone go to work. PTSD is very traumatic and makes it so hard to pick up the pieces.

That poor, poor father. I hope he finds the strength to continue to live for his other child.
