Then dont play with your SY if you are good enough to stay with older group. This is a dumb post.

Not a dumb post at all.

I think he was working through in his head why they're trying to make his daughter play on a team with players that are a grade below her. If you're not that involved in youth soccer and not looking to play down it doesnt make sense. Most people assume playing up is what the best players do not the other way around.
You don't know what was in his head but decided that you could make it up to try to get it to fit your clueless narrative that everyone should be forced in grade year. Well done I guess.

He's using every argument and tactic he can find to push his same grade agenda

It doesn't need to make sense to the rest of us, only him
Funny that he said his July daughter is "screwed" by being the youngest in the age group but doesn't think the relative age effect is real. Turns out he has a different fake reality for each kid but making the Sept girl the oldest is is main goal which will change once she is out of club soccer in 3-4 years.

DAG also cos-plays as a college coach/recruiter - letting us know how they will be approaching a situation that hasn't happened yet with laser like accuracy.

I wish I could quit this thread, but sometimes new information actually gets posted.

Your head is so deep in the sand you can see China.

Ignore all you want but this was a real conversation from a real parent about a real Aug birthday g2016 player.

I was surprised when he said it. Which is why I asked questions and tried not to provide any advise.I wanted to see what he was thinking without any outside influence.
You are struggling to keep this story straight. FYI, this is advice, "I said if you think that it's weird just tell your club that you're not paying unless shes on a team with players her grade." and based on your story he didn't say anything was wrong and needed to be fixed.

Thank you providing. These are my feelings as well. The person you're argueing with is just adding comments to push this off the page.
At least use spell checker when you parrot yourself. Not that spelling of base words often changes based on verb tense -ing.

You play your birth month/year, skill level and physicality, not your grade

How is it playing down if the age group is 8/1/2014 to July 31, 2015 and you're born 8/10/2014?

Things change when you get to Olders.

Once recruiting is introduced into the mix you'll want your kid playing on a team thats their grade in school not on a team thats a grade lower. Clubs know this and if they're serious about long term development and getting players onto college teams they'll play Aug birthdays with their grade as young as possible.

Wouldn't Aug, Sep and October fall in the same grade category?

It all depends on when your school district starts. Some districts start earlier and those Aug Sept Oct birthdays will be a grade up. Some school districts start later and those Aug Sept Oct birthdays would be a grade down.

So you want the leagues and clubs to modify based on individual school districts?

Colleges recruit on talent

Graduation year let's them know your availability and where it fits in their Freshman recruitment plans.

What you dont understand is the top colleges have 100s of players to choose from for every position. Nobody is going out of their way to pick a player thats playing down a grade. Nobody is that good that they're standing out that way. If they were they'd be playing up on the team thats their grade.
The rules aren't grade year. Move on.

Nah
Top Colleges have a handful of players they're considering for their small Freshman incoming class

The Freshman class is usually less than 10 players

You think they are picking from everyone eligible. They're picking from the few they want.
Most if not all of who contacted them directly

If I was a coach I'd inta-pass on players choosing to play down.

100% red flag that parents want to work the system and will likely be a pain in the ass.

Conversely if an Aug birthday asked to play on a team thats their grade Id allow + 100% respect that choice.
That's the thing, you're not a college coach. And college coaches aren't like you trying to stick it to August kids so their Sept kid could be the oldest. So you and college coaches are different like that.

If you're playing club soccer according to the league age cutoff, how can it be playing down by choice? How are you working the system?

Make that make sense

When recruiters go to watch a game they want all players to be a specific graduation year. This is the primary benefit for recruiters when it comes to SY. Trudging down to some oddball field to watch an obbball player is not what recruiters want to do. Before you get your panties in a wad leagues schedule the most recruitable teams in the best times and fields during events. Everyone else gets what they get. Are you starting to catch the hint? Playing down a grade will be a constant fight of going against the grain. Just bite the bullet early and play on a correct grade team.
Doesn't make sense with internationals and transfers and current BY with multiple grades being what they are. Your inadvertently saying that college coaches won't work with kids from bad teams but they do that all the time. That is the main problem with your misunderstanding, college coaches know how to scout in unique circumstances. No bullet needs to be bitten and teams said for kids to play on age.

Except when the one person has spent, what, almost a year trying to get someone to also want GY and hate August births and hasn't found them yet. Sounds like just one crazy.

Not believable. They didn't have a problem with their daughter playing on age, just thought it was a little odd, and then you told them to go to the club and demand that they allow the girl to play up an age group. That isn't just listening.

Everyone should be gone. Leagues said 8/1 - 7/31 except MLSN1 and clubs said play on age and only the best get to play up with grade not being a pivotal factor. It's been over. Nobody forced to play up. That's over.

Not believable. They didn't have a problem with their daughter playing on age, just thought it was a little odd, and then you told them to go to the club and demand that they allow the girl to play up an age group. That isn't just listening.

Maybe, but the word they used was "weird" not "a little odd" and I know this guy he's 100% into his older kid getting recruited to swim in college. He said weird because playing down a grade goes against everything he's researched for his older kid. I did tell him to tell the club if he wants his kid to play with their grade. He pays the bills. You dont have to be in a weird situation just because some coach wants a big kid on their g2016 team.
