It will be unfortunate for the girls left on team 2. But then again they have a good coach so they are still better off.

Anonymous wrote:Anyone go to 2012 boys tryouts? What's the opinion of the club in this age group? I have a 2012 boy who was on the lower field of play, we're coming from CYA rec.

My understanding is most of the current 2012 Silver team (the lowest team) was a CYA rec team (maybe a CYA all star team) and the coach was the rec coach. I have also heard that team is actually better than the 3rd team but that was from a silver parent. I guess that 4th team is now the black team. So they have four teams, it should be easy to get a spot but not sure a spot you want.

Yes - the talent gap between the top 2 teams and the bottom 2 teams is pretty wide. The silver team (4th team/future black team) is I would say almost equal to the 3rd team but a long way from the 2nd team and longer way to the top team (current gold/next year ecnl-r). The fourth team plays in the lowest NCSL division but has a chance at promotion. Someone posted a link to the NCSL schedule/results in the last few pages of this thread.

Pretty typical. The tryouts at this club are a joke. They already know who is going to be on the number 1 and 2 teams.

-Lots of nepotism. Good luck folks if you haven't already been preparing to make a move.

-If Valor is going to make more than 3 teams, your changing age groups, it's likely that 4th or 5th teams will never be in a higher level of play or division.
-I'd ask about how well their 4th and 5th teams did. Lots of smoke and mirrors.

No one expects the 4th and 5th level teams to do well. I mean, come on. They are developmental.

Wow. I hope you're not Coach. I guess why parents should spend the money for a non-developmental program. Are you saying, based on low expectations for development its best to stay away from 4th and 5th teams?

Nobody should be paying 1st/2nd team prices for 3rd teams or beyond, nor should clubs really push that but thats not the reality of club soccer in America as a business. If a kid gets an offer for the 3rd team or beyond anywhere, rec soccer is likely a better option.

Well said. Concur with you comments. Thanks.

Out of curiosity, why doesn’t the coach of team 2 for 2013 girls move the girls up from their existing division if they are winning every game 0 to 7.

I would be pissed if I was paying $3000 for my kid to have zero competition

You can't move up once the season starts.
Coaches get a lot of say in where their team starts the season. They could have moved up between fall and spring.

Was their record the same last season? Not moving the girls this season is a huge upset.

Coaches don't get a lot of say in initial division placement, which is Spring of U11 (aka, this season). If they demolish everyone they can possibly jump a division in the fall.

Man, if they are crushing, they should have been moved up. Curious what the rationale is or how they determined the placement. Must have got it wrong or maybe they just wanted to win games.

Seems counterproductive for player development. Not much can be gained if there isn't some challenge or struggle within the league or division. Best to find another club or discuss it with the lead coach to get some traction or even move on.

The coaches at Valor would not know talent if it hit them in the face...nor can they see when a kid has limited potential. A couple years ago our son had offers from four different MLS Next and ECNL teams. He went to the Valor tryout simply because he wanted extra touches that weekend. The coach approaches afterward and said he thought he was a second team player at Valor. Fast forward a few months and we scrimmaged their top team.. score was 12-0. The Valor top team only saw their offensive side of the field three times in over an hour. I really feel sorry for anyone who is wasting their money at this club.

Its one season of u-little soccer in one slightly off division. Seriously, no big deal. They should be getting challenged in tournaments.

They moved up. Word is Al is fighting for tougher competition in the upcoming season. Their 2nd team could beat 1st probably (sadly)

Any idea how many teams there are for boys U10 2015 and how they rank level wise? Looks like last year it was gold/white/black/silver/blue. Also curious about how many players they carry on each team?

They will keep number 1 and 2 teams at about 90% full. So 10-11 players so they can flex if they want to move a player up. I would stay clear of number 4th-5th teams. Those bottom lower level teams will likely play in the last division. You mind as well go back to rec. Each team can have 12 players max.

If they are all playing up, they should move. Why not. Unclear if they would compete in the same tournaments but it would clearly determine and table whats what or who is who in performance.
