Hayfield Football Coach Fired

Anonymous
I'm shocked he wasn't fired immediately. The VHSL says your coach cheated so badly that one of your teams can't be in the playoffs for TWO YEARS and you don't fire him immediately?

The Lewis senior recognition was done at the beginning of the Lewis-Hayfield game. Hayfield did not show up until shortly before the start time, as apparently they warmed up their own field and then were bused over.

One Lewis player was injured during the game and an ambulance was called. I've not heard anything further on his condition, but he was wheeled out wearing a neck brace.

I think he will be relieved at the end of the season. And never hold a coaching position again, too much baggage.

Just as the NFL doesn’t have owners fire coaches after a 2-7 start they will do after the completion of the 4-13 season. The same courtesy will more likely than not be extended to Overton.

Well, their season is over now.

He should be fired from his FCPS day job too, that he was never qualified to hold. Anyone with such poor morals as to cheat and trigger such a strict punishment for the team they coach should not be holding a position of trust in FCPS.

Too bad Lewis didn’t have enough pride to start going after the knees of kids with scholarships on the line

Other FCPS schools don't cheat and play dirty like Hayfield.

The principal needs to be fired, too, and all the hangers on. But instead it seems FCPS has decided to back the suspended team?!

Michelle Reid bet wrong that this would just blow over. She is incompetent, and she needs to be ousted.

Such a bad message to rest of VA that VHSL 3 times felt certain of its ruling on a situation where just the facts to general public look HORRIBLE and FCPS is STILL backing the actions. Reid backing Hayfield at expense of entire county.

Do you honestly think the VHSL would ban a school football team from FCPS, one of the largest and most influential public school systems in the country, without PROOF? Sorry, but that not an argument. That’s just a dumb response from someone who got caught cheating. Stupid.

Well why aren’t they releasing the PROOF?

They have said Hayfield was inappropriate and mentioned recruiting. Not once did they give any specific information on how the recruiting was done. All they said was Hayfield had transfers. For example, did Overton talk to these kids and there parents and ask them to move? They just keep saying the kids showed up.

I know some parents were on social media saying they came to Hayfield because they like Overton, but they didn’t say that was the only reason. If they didn’t give parents an opportunity to say if they moved their boys to Hayfield for any other reason, then they legally transferred to the school.

Hayfield is a good school, in a nice area, more diverse, and there could better opportunities at Hayfield outside of football they liked. Did anyone ask the parents if they considered anything other than the football program when moving near Hayfield? If so, they didn’t move “solely” to play football at the school.

I was hearing last year that the football program was being mistreated at Freedom or not getting support there, so I’m not surprised they wanted to get away from that situation. If you’re moving your kid, you want them to go somewhere that they are comfortable.

Oh that's hilarious. Football mistreated? What a bunch of baloney. Overton was using the school grounds for his private company and was mad the school wouldn't pay for nice buses to get kids to championship games. They didn't want to ride in school buses like everyone else. You Overton minions love to spread non truths.

I can't fathom how some of them keep jobs with the school system after seeing their social media posts.

FCPS has a bad history of retaining and even promoting administrators who are unethical and bad at their jobs. This is yet another example.

His assistant coach/brother, who he got a full time job as a teacher's aide, posted crazy stuff about the devil on his social media.

+1. He should have been escorted out by security. Oh wait, they hired him to be security.
