Hayfield Football Coach Fired

Anonymous
I guarantee that the VHSL has all the PROOF you would want over all three or more times Coach O has been investigated during his tenure has head coach at both Freedom and Hayfield. Do you honestly think the VHSL would ban a school football team from FCPS, one of the largest and most influential public school systems in the country, without PROOF? Sorry, but that not an argument. That’s just a dumb response from someone who got caught cheating. Stupid.

Did Lewis -Hatfield game go all 4 quarters last night without incident? Saw Hayfield was up by 49 in 2nd but didn’t see final. Did they just do senior Lewis recognition at half and end game or what was final score?

Most of the games have been called in the third quarter

Could not open WashPo article, but found other link from @nickywolcott X account that has FCPS statement where FCPS doubles down on no wrongdoing

Well why aren’t they releasing the PROOF?

They have said Hayfield was inappropriate and mentioned recruiting. Not once did they give any specific information on how the recruiting was done. All they said was Hayfield had transfers. For example, did Overton talk to these kids and there parents and ask them to move? They just keep saying the kids showed up.

I know some parents were on social media saying they came to Hayfield because they like Overton, but they didn’t say that was the only reason. If they didn’t give parents an opportunity to say if they moved their boys to Hayfield for any other reason, then they legally transferred to the school.

Hayfield is a good school, in a nice area, more diverse, and there could better opportunities at Hayfield outside of football they liked. Did anyone ask the parents if they considered anything other than the football program when moving near Hayfield? If so, they didn’t move “solely” to play football at the school.

I was hearing last year that the football program was being mistreated at Freedom or not getting support there, so I’m not surprised they wanted to get away from that situation. If you’re moving your kid, you want them to go somewhere that they are comfortable.

Their statement conflates eligibility with recruiting violations. They also did not check the eligibility for 9 players.
Or mention the sportsmanship issues
found by VHSL.

What an embarrassment.

For everyone still focusing on the recruiting violation, yes, reads that was a violation, but at this point betting 99.9% of first sanction was the 2nd spirit of the game violation and appeal 1. & 2 upheld 100% by spirit of the game violations.

I figured Overton would leave after this, but if FCPS supporting Overton, he may stay and get even more FCPS resources and $ to say “sorry he has to go though this.”

FCPS specifically worded such that agree is misleading for what really happened. Maybe a paper will do FOIA ask to find out what really happened.

This is amazingly comical, I love how this person posting makes this seems as if this is so innocent and everyone at Hayfield football, parents, players, coaches and admin (DSA, principle) knew nothing or would never have done this. However, all of those individuals contributed to this. Everyone. Period. Stop making it seem as if they are innocent when they are not. This would never have happened if the players, coaches, parents or school administrators did not cheat. All involved did this. You would be playing a football game next week, just like you did last year, if this didn’t happen. If you want solid “PROOF,” go down to Charlottesville and ask the VHSL for the proof you need. Its there. They may share it with you or not, but it’s there.

Good luck in Winter Sports, now that your fall sports are concluded!!

So sounds like FCPS took the info FCPS had collected on certain players and asked if VHSL agreed that FCPS checked RESIDENCY correctly. FCPS says VHSL said yes, based on the what you are asking and FCPS information, that is how you check residency. But FCPS mad that VHSL then began looking at, not whether kids lived where they said they lived, but WHY. FCPS position is VHSL had to immediately say you have bigger problems or can’t say anything later, but VHSL needed time to do a full and complete investigation so it could be fair.

“But we asked you and you didn’t immediately say anything” position from FCPS is unfortunate given Reid could have said FCPS only looked at residency and was without authority for what VHSL reviewed and actioned. Would have been a better look for FCPS.

Ask FCPS and Hayfield for what proof was used- they will have it and can leak it if they want to, but since students are minors, VHSL will not.

The VHSL doesn't release the "proof" or give specifics in cases like these. Their communication is with the schools. You, a random person, are not a stakeholder to them. You may be able to FOIA something from FCPS.

Most of the "proof" would be redacted to protect the students' privacy.

It doesn't matter if families come up with other reasons why they wanted to move. Many of them posted on social media that they were transferring to Hayfield to PLAY FOOTBALL FOR OVERTON. It doesn't get more clear-cut than that.

Let it go. This was already decided so pick a new topic to discuss like will Overton stay or how you can take down all those other schools that transfer in 24 students and ruin the spirit of the game at 2 schools.

It doesn't have to be the only reason. Wow, you are dumb.
