Also the distance from the Crown site for the two schools are:
Fields Road ES: 1.8 miles Brown Station: 4.2 to 4.7 miles depending on route Moving Fields Road from QO to anywhere other than Crown doesn't make sense. Especially taking into account FARMS rates. Why would you take add two schools with FARMS rate of about 50 percent to a school that is projected to be close to capacity and also has a FARMS rate of around 60 percent? AND there is more development proposed and going on around Gaithersburg? The green area by Rio Lake? Lakeforest mall? |
You never know what is going to happen. Even this, even this, superintendent recognizes serious pushback. |
What??? |
Makes most geographic sense to send Fields Rd to Crown. Bless them they are wonderful people. |
Yes! I would be furious if I can see Crown HS from my house but unable to attend. |
I would be furious if I can see Wootton HS from my house but unable to attend and have to be bussed to crown. |
|
I'm not saying Fields Road ES shouldn't go to Crown.
But look at the map overview for Shady Grove Middle School. Taunton Drive is literally adjacent to the parking lot to Shady Grove Middle school. But students that live on that street and connecting neighborhood gets bussed 2 miles away to Gaithersburg Middle School. It's even a worse case than Fields Road ES, which has a highway and about a mile separating the Fields Road community from Crown High school. So wouldn't be the first time MCPS buses students past a school within sight of another school from their neighborhood. |
| I don't have any information about lawsuits but my guess is that they are arguing discrimination. That's how a huge # of lawsuits in the education space are framed. A few years ago, I think MCPS would have fought that type of case but given the current political climate, I'm guessing they don't want to take that on. |
True, but these current boundary studies were intended to fix those issues, not create new ones. |
On what basis? |
This. Geography should always be the #1 factor. |
For the last time, HH doesn't want to go to Wootton. Most of the parents in HH with kids in MCPS prefer to stay at RM. Fallsgrove should go to Crown, though. |
You can be furious, but this is the case all across MCPS. The location of the HS all across the county are not equidistant to each other, so the boundaries are drawn such that some homes are closer to one HS but they are zoned for another HS further away. |
The thing is that any option that moves a group of kids will be "push backed" against by those parents. The rest of us think it's fine, and in fact, makes sense. To me, the Wootton folks seem like whiners. |
But Wootton HS will be torn down and won't exist, so that problem would be solved... |
