He is also much younger than ol’ man Walz. I just wonder if Vance might hold back due to respect for someone so much older than himself?

Vance was just like Obama: smooth, polished and very well put together in his appearance and in his thoughts. Out of four of them, he is the most presidential unfortunately.

He certainly lies better than the others.

Vance does give Obama's vibes and I see why a lot of people don't like him.

A lot of people found Vance more likeable after hearing him speaking, instead of cut of media selected pieces. He is very civil, educated, great family. What not to like?

All of his policies.

I think Tim maybe needed a little more prep, but let's be honest there was no way he was going to win when it does not matter what the other side says. Jd didn't even have to prep. He could just literally make up whatever he wanted in the moment based on what Tim said and know that it does not matter at all to his voters

Walz is too old and too politically experienced to act like a nervous wreck during a single debate.

He was a senior enlisted leader in the US military and a football coach, but was in shambles last night. Something isn’t right about that.

Any man that doesn’t act like a toxic frat bro and bully people is “in shambles” for MAGA.

Vance didn’t act like a toxic frat bro.

Walz called himself a knucklehead. What a joke. Why would anyone vote for a self described knucklehead?

People with humility. Very typical for a Minnesotan.

Being humble is great, admitting you are an idiot is not great.

Nobody running for VP should have to explain their lies and misstatements as occurring because they are a knucklehead. That’s ridiculous.

Walz admitted he’s not fit for office. It’s embarrassing.

He misspoke. Not that big of a deal when compared to the garbage statements coming out of Trump and Vance.

Republicans don't actually care about lying, they just don't want their leaders to admit it. Vance lied all night. He was even caught on camera for lying and calling Haitian immigrants ILLEGALS when they are in Springfield on legal visas.

Amid the devastating damage from Hurricane Helene, both were asked if climate change was contributing to such extreme weather events. Walz emphatically said climate change was "real" while Vance expressed skepticism about "weird science," stating carbon emissions were contributing to the climate crisis.

Health care,
Vance was pressed on Trump's comment that he only had "concepts of a plan" to replace the Affordable Care Act and how their administration would protect people with preexisting conditions.

He also distorted many of Trump's actions on the ACA and claimed Trump made the law stronger, which he actually tried to kill twice but failed thanks to the late great John McCain.

Housing crisis
Walz was asked about Harris' plan to build three million new homes (which he argued would not drive up prices and would lead to generational wealth) and whether he believed it was likely Congress would agree to her proposal for an enhanced Child Tax Credit. He said both high housing and child care costs were the biggest burdens on American families.

Abortion
Vance claimed that he never supported a national abortion ban, despite previously signaling support for a bill introduced by Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham that would ban abortion after 15 weeks nationwide.

Walz spoke about the women whose health has been negatively impacted by state-level restrictions since the fall of Roe v. Wade. Walz blamed Trump for the Supreme Court nominations he said "put this all into motion."

Groundhog Day Jan 6

Vance refused to say if he will accept election, doesn't condemn Jan. 6

Near end, Vance was asked if he would seek to challenge the 2024 election even if every governor certified the results. However, the senator sidestepped the question and pivoted to what he claimed was Harris and tech companies censoring people. He also brought up the endorsements of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard.

Walz said he was troubled by Vance's statement and said such denials needed to come to an end.
"Here we are, four years later, in the same boat. I will tell you, that when this is over, we need to shake hands, this election, and the winner needs to be the winner. This has got to stop. It's tearing our country apart.”

Amen Gov Walz

he lied

This was my take too. Walz did better than I expected but I knew Vance was going to be good at this.

I think this moment is going to haunt him - whiny little b**ch who wants to be able to lie without anyone calling him on it

I agree. Vance tried to lawyer his way out later by trying to explain they are legal temporarily versus legal permanently, but there's no avoiding the truth: Vance intentionally LIED when he called them ILLEGAL. They are not illegal, and that LIE has dangerous consequences to the humans living and working legally in that community, and Vance needed to be fact-checked ASAP.

Just 6 weeks ago the government announced new protocols because they admitted that the previous protocols, which which they admitted up to 30,000 people from month from a group of 4 countries including Haiti, were not sufficiently vetting criminal background as required by law.

Admitting criminals has dangerous consequences.

JD Vance sailed fairly smoothly through some 90 minutes of Tuesday’s debate with Tim Walz. Then the subject turned to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/02/us/politics/vance-jan-6-debate.html

This! This was the only question and response that really mattered in the whole debate. Vance refused to address the question of whether Trump lost the 2020 election. What else do you need to know about him?

Here's the exchange:

Walz then reminded Vance that Trump still refuses to concede he lost the election and asked Vance directly: "Did he lose the 2020 election?"

"Tim, I'm focused on the future," Vance responded. "Did Kamala Harris censor Americans from speaking their mind in the wake of the 2020 COVID situation?"

"That is a damning non-answer," Walz said.

And here is a thread explaining the gaslighting here

JD Vance can lie with a straight face. He also contradicts himself and deflects easily with no shame.

He changed his name, religion, stance on Trump and refuses to admit he lied when caught in a lie.

what???? I can only lie with some impunity? How dare you!

Nailed it. Zero integrity.

Vance looked super slick but dodged all the hard issues, and doubled-down on the pet-eating story.

Walz struggled but his sincerity was apparent.

So naturally, people think Vance won. And they even like him more.

Aren't voters dumb?

What else is new?

I mean these debates are all to win over dumbasses. Not just this one but all of them. You really think these debates are to discuss truthful policies? Maybe in West Wing but your are totally naive if you think any politician in the 2000s are going to be good.

Give me a break. These debates are for show. Why people watch other than for entertainment purposes is BS. Nothing any one of them says is more than for a soundbite.

This is why we have such dismal candidates running in both parties!

I agree with this Daily Beast take:

No one wanted to see two grown men in a televised slap fight. But Vance is a smart and articulate man whose primary weaknesses are his thin skin, his defensiveness, and his bizarro politics. He’s wise enough to lie about his bizarro politics, because it’s very clear that his actual positions are widely unpopular. And at the debate, his thin skin simply wasn’t pierced—because his opponent didn’t try to pierce it. As a result, he looked like a polished politician ready for the national stage, and not like the petulant, intemperate man-child we’ve seen emerge when he’s triggered. And until Walz finally found his footing at the very end of the debate, he seemed like a small-state governor out of his depth.

Both of these men are smart. Both seem to have sincere ideological commitments, although Vance is quite willing to bend his if it moves him closer to power. Both have not just broad ideas of how to make America great, but specific plans on how to get there. But that is where the similarities end. Vance’s plans are generally cruel and reckless. Vance the man is dishonest and dangerous.

And unfortunately, that reality simply wasn’t exposed on Tuesday night, for the same reason that Walz will make a very fine vice president if he can get into office: He is reflexively generous, genuinely gracious, and sometimes just too damn nice.

Anonymous wrote:Visually, Vance looked better and was calmer than Walz. Waltz is folksy and relatable but the split screen visual did go in Vance’s favor with Walz appearing sweaty and anxious. Remember, younger generations know all about social media and how to look better, sound better and be insta ready angled.

The age difference did show just as with Trump vs Harris. Look as far back at Kennedy vs Nixon. There is a lesson to be learned about how to present yourself and how others will view you. Calm means you are winning.

None of this will matter in a week. Trump is still at the top of the ticket and Vance wrote the forward to Project 2025.

No he did not write the foreword to project 2025, and Trump disavowed Project 2025 and they closed up shop.

Trump and Vance are only appealing to idiot men.

That’s such a sad thing to say. Woman here. Voting for Trump, although I do wish Vance were the presidential candidate.

You are helping the wrong side on the War on Women. You sound like a lobotomized trad wife. Trump is a sexual predator and Vance is an incel hero. Your priorities are messed up.
