It’s going to be epic to see all those British faces sobbing because you can’t rob your way thru a trophy. Back to the cave, rat.

Don't you mean English faces? I'm British (Northern Irish) and I'll be cheering for Italy. And I'm not alone. You'll find that many in Britain, ie Scotland, Wales and N Ireland, support ABE - Anyone But England.

I'm English which doesn't stop me finding this absurd and trite jingle highly annoying.

It has never been home, re. the Euros. I love the interview with Denmark players when they said this !

WC was 1966, no Euro win.

I think the annoying jingle is a reference to the game's invention (or at least the formal codification of laws) in England in the 19th century, not any previous tournament victory, or (as you point out) lack thereof.

Besides inventing the sport the English haven’t achieved much except robbing that World Cup in the 60s.

Spain and Germany both have 3 euros. Italy has 1 like England.

I’ve bet $1000 that Italy wins in regulation. If I succeed I’ll double my earnings. fck the queen and it’s plebe

NP. You are wrong. “The British people, or Britons, are the citizens of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the British Overseas Territories, and the Crown dependencies.”

Yes the English national side have not had much success since 1966 if you simply look to silverware. But they went to the semi-finals in Italia 90 and in Russia 2018. I don't believe they have ever won the Euros but it's been a while since Italy has as well. The one thing England has given us and continues to give us (along with a few clubs from Wales) is the Premiership and its passion for football at the club level.

England has some players now. They play basically a 4-2-4, which against Italy will be interesting. Italy actually plays a similar system.

What is so funny is that you state that with such authority - but you are still wrong. People from N Ireland are British (although they are just as eligible to be Irish, or indeed both).

Of course they are not part of Great Britain, as that is a geographical term to describe the mainland that contains England, Scotland and Wales. But they are part of the British Isles - another geographical term, so even from a geographical perspective they are “British”.

Politically, they are definitely British, even if some prefer to identify as Irish, as while Northern Ireland has a devolved assembly for local governance it is ultimately governed by the British government.

There. I gave you a brief explanation so that you don’t embarrass yourself by exposing your ignorance again.

Uh ... who cares, let’s get back to soccer talk. Do folks like Italy’s direct style of play or do they prefer the over possession style?

There is no correlation between the premier league and England football team. The best players in the premier league are not English.

But the presence of world class players from outside of the UK in the Premiership has certainly benefited the development of the top class tier of players, particularly the ones on this national team.

None of this British stuff matters. Italy will be European Champions in a few hours.
