Unless you’re an English kunt there’s no reason to root for them lol like when everyone was Croatia in WC2018 |

It's coming home
It's coming home It's coming Footballs coming home! |
I'm English which doesn't stop me finding this absurd and trite jingle highly annoying. |
| Where is a good place to watch the game on Sunday with kids? Looking for a big screen, preferably outdoors, kid friendly, food+drinks... Any ideas? |
It’s going to be epic to see all those British faces sobbing because you can’t rob your way thru a trophy. Back to the cave, rat. |
And does anyone know where one can buy Italian soccer shirts? We’re partly Italian-American and it would be fun to have the kiddos and us wear the shirts and celebrate our heritage too. Such fun! |
Bump. Also wondering… |
Oh this game will be a black arts special. There will be some much diving and rolling around in pain. I doubt they actually play more than 15 minutes a half. |
It has never been home, re. the Euros. I love the interview with Denmark players when they said this !
WC was 1966, no Euro win. |
| England 2 Italy 1. In regulation. Italy scores first, then runs out of steam while England methodically grinds them down. |
Don't you mean English faces? I'm British (Northern Irish) and I'll be cheering for Italy. And I'm not alone. You'll find that many in Britain, ie Scotland, Wales and N Ireland, support ABE - Anyone But England. |
And after the remark the smug look on Kaspar Schmeichel's face faded as he was confronted by a journalist on his thoughts of facing a player (Kane) who's scored a boat load against Schmiechel in the Premiership. Must have stung more after he made the first penalty save only for Kane to bang in the rebound and spark that chant of football's coming home. Let's remember in 1966 England was facing a side that had a World Cup to its name (1954) whilst England had never won the World Cup. It could happen this time around despite Italy being the team in form and the team to beat. By no means would I think that Italy can be easily beaten as they've demonstrated their class throughout this entire tournament. But the sentimentalist in me hopes to see England win. I still remember watching the semi-final match between England and Germany with that woeful Southgate miss against Koepke and then being subjected to the 98 version of "Football's coming home" (tears for heroes dressed in grey, no plans for final day!). Either way it will be a fantastic end to an otherwise entertaining tournament. |
British is what most Americans call people from England. I just tell them this: English - People from England Great Brittain - The one island with Scotland, Wales, and England. Brittish Isles - Includes Great Brittain, Ireland and many others. |
I think the annoying jingle is a reference to the game's invention (or at least the formal codification of laws) in England in the 19th century, not any previous tournament victory, or (as you point out) lack thereof. |
