Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
| One principal can't solve all of that without parental support. I'm at another W school and the principal has made no headway there either. |

I disagree that a principal can’t do anything about school climate. For example, enforce the Student Code of Conduct. Don’t say a social media post is not an incident on school grounds therefore the school can’t do anything. Have staff in the hallways, stairwells, and outside bathroom doors when students are changing classes to look for issues including bullying and drug dealing.
Other problems with Heckert, before the pandemic, she led Churchill to end 0s before the Board of Education got rid of 0s. I think giving students 50% for work not completed is more harmful than helpful. Heckert’s actions got media attention and therefore scrutiny from Central Office. Her school motto screams propaganda. If you are a student who is having troubles with fitting in at school, the last thing you buy into is that Churchill is a place where all are proud to be. Her reaction to students when they have problems is dismissive and sometimes rude. She doesn’t care about the well-being of the students who have problems in her school. She comes across as fake. She’ll promise the moon then do nothing. |
| Staff are beyond thrilled that she's gone |
Just curious. Why? |
| Can Wootton get a new one too? |
| Maybe Wootton and Churchill can swap principals then! |
Maybe the area that pays the most taxes should get first pick! |
They don't speak for all staff. |
Cute. |
Not Cute. Privileged and entitled (and the fact that this really is the way that the US, by and large, funds its schools is a big reason that the USA has less intergenerational mobility than most of Europe). |

All schools deserve good leadership. All staff at school deserve to be respected. All parents and students deserve respect.
Any less than this is why MCPS is crumbling at its foundation. |
Are there any "W" schools doing a good job on diversity? Pyle is infamous for its problems, and it seems the Whitman principal is spending a good deal of his time on diversity, equity related matters, but is it helping? Is there a principal who has made a dent and changed the culture of their "white/W" school for the better? I guess I'm wondering how the principals are doing at places like North Bethesda, Silver Creek, Westland, Cabin John, and at high schools like BCC, Walter Johnson, Whitman, and any other in this category that I'm forgetting. |
A discussion about diversity should be more than race. Basically any child can be treated with disrespect, hate, and bullying. Race, gender, students with disabilities, LGBTQIA, and FARMS students are easy targets. The climate will never change at Churchill till respect is enforced. Use the Student Code of Conduct to the full extent possible. Explain to the student body the consequences of not following appropriate standards of behavior. |
How do you "enforce" "respect"? |
