Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
| the principal position is listed on the mcps site. |

The school’s motto of “Where all are proud to belong” rubs salt in wounds of students in the community who have not been treated equally or fairly in the community. It’s as if Mrs. Heckert thought saying the phrase often enough in the school will make the dream a reality.
What is there to be proud of at Churchill any way? Three overdoses last school year? A student runs over another student with his car after a drug deal went south? A student allowed to return to the classroom after being caught with enough drugs to be more than personal recreational use? The N word card incident? A teacher removed from the building after kissing a female student? Do a staff and student climate survey and see if all are proud to belong. There’s really not much to be proud of. |
+1 What's wrong with that? Impressed with the new principal at BMES (feeder to Churchill) |
| I would support some movement towards a diversity hire a Churchill. It would be a step in the right direction to fix hate problems in the school. |
Discussing the W schools always brings out the best in us!

| Community meeting tomorrow at 7pm via Zoom. Dr. Howard will be the Interim Principal till a permanent placement in appointed by the Board of Education in July. Seems like a rushed process to either get a warm body to fill the vacancy or Central Office already knows who is going to be chosen for the job. |
| What is her new position? |
| There had to be something happen of note for it to just be changed this quickly. My last child just graduated and I was so happy to unsubscribe to the MCPS emails and be free of the nonsense. |
| Interesting. The principal of Seven Locks Elementary (Churchill feeder), who was just started at the same time as Heckert, also just recently announced her departure. I'm definitely not happy about all of this turnover in the cluster. |
I hope they don't pluck a mediocre principal from another school because it's "their turn." Peter Moran needs to choose someone with brains and the ability to turn the ship around. Someone who will bring something new and fresh to the position. It's also time in my opinion to get a person of color in that school. He has plenty of good people to recruit from within who would meet all of the above criteria. Why not go for someone who would not necessarily apply on their own but would be great? Don't make the same mistake twice. |

2 Principals in the same cluster, both under Dr. Moran, are leaving with short notice? Wow. That’s really odd. Is there something magical about the third year of being Principal that causes the transition? I think Churchill was Mrs. Heckert’s 5th high school as she went from math teacher to AP to Principal Intern to Principal. 5 schools in a 20 year career is a lot of moving around for that next step in her career. It would be great to find a Principal who wants to make a positive long term change in the school, not just playing politics for that next job. I agree that it will take someone with a new perspective from outside the Churchill cluster ranks to turn the ship around. I also agree looking for diversity in the hire would be important. |
Lots of burnout this year. Lots of staff leaving their positions. |
| The Seven Locks principal wanted to work closer to home. She is still an elementary school principal. Not sure whether Heckert chose to leave or was pushed out. If Moran is holding people to high expectations, good for him. Too often they let the terrible principals stay around forever. |
