Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
I’m curious, why do you think that she doesn’t want to leave? She didn’t say anything publicly to the community. Benz left for”retirement” and other Principals have publicly named where they are going. It’s the sudden departure with a 5pm announcement the school day after graduation that is odd. The last time MCPS used the line “another leadership position in MCPS” was with the Damascus Principal after the football locker room rapes. Good news is announced loud and proud in MCPS. Not so good news is hidden with employee confidentiality. My only concern is whether something went so wrong that impacted my child. If there is a scandal that Dr. Moran and MCPS knows about, they need to come clean with the Churchill community. |
| That's highly unlikely. If she wants to share, she will. |
| You don’t have to share what specifically happens to Mrs. Heckert to say if for example, Board of Education policies were not followed. |
| Didn't Benz just retire? |
Three years ago |

Why do we know it was something nefarious?
-The timing of the notice -That timing of the replacement (MCPS knew this was coming and planned for it, otherwise at this late date would have been an interim with actual hire later) -That MCPS hasn't named her new position -That she has been a disaster from day one, that staff and parents cannot stand her |
Well, you got your way. But you might want to wait until you see her replacement. Be careful what you wish for! |
LOL Thanks MCPS PR Dept. for standard response. |
High school is only for four years. MCPS banks on the fact that most parents are not vested in the school for very long. I agree that we could go from bad to worse (look what happened after Benz) but hopefully we will go from bad to better. |
| My daughter is a freshman so we have not had much to judge the principal on, but everything seemed fine this year. There was a lot of communication and she seemed positive and friendly at town halls. I haven’t heard much negativity about the principal in the neighborhood, so I am surprised to read all of this here. I do hope we can get a principal that will be a positive change for the school. It made such a huge difference with Beverly Farms when we got rid of that toxic principal, so hopefully the new principal will be able to bring positive energy. |
That's never stopped DCUM parents before!

You will go from Heckert to whoever the person who pushed her out wantS to work with more. It’s the (white) old boys network. |
If you look at the MCPS hierarchy for next year, it’s far from a “white old boys” network. The Interim Superintendent is a black female. Dr. Moran’s boss, Dr. Dyson, is a black female. The interim principal for Churchill is a black female. |
I've been curious how the teachers/staff feel about her, since most of her job is managing them. But as a parent, I can say the last statement isn't true. I liked her well enough and I don't know any parent who hated her. My dd said she 'tried too hard' by greeting them and smiling at kids and that kind of thing-- all good traits in my book! There have definitely been some incidents in the last few years, but I blame entitled parents and entitled kids for those. A new-ish principal did not cause the N-word thing; entitled parents and entitled kids did, and as far as I can tell, the school handled it fine when it was thrown at them. A creepy science teacher had been a creepy science teacher at Churchill for years and was actually fired during her tenure. |
The creepy science teacher came back - btw not Mrs. Heckert’s call. She doesn’t have the power to fire a teacher. There were other problems though that she was responsible for. The racial incidents kept happening and she wasn’t effective in improving student behavior in the school. Just one of problems glossed over. |
