Know that we will all blame you for the kid's deaths if you supported removing the police.

And your blame will be misplaced because ACPS has its own security department who should have procedures in place to address who can and cannot enter the building. If those procedures are good enough for the elementary schools, they should be good enough for the middle and high schools.

Unarmed. I suppose they will stop a shooter's bullets by yelling?

So in your view the elementary schools are unsafe at this point without SROs?

Imgine making such a callous statemnet to a Sandy Hook parent.

This isn’t just a straw man- it’s the whole scarecrow!

The straw man argument for keeping the SROs is that they are absolutely necessary to protect against school shootings. SROs came out of the 90’s crime bill and not out of the rise of school shootings. Even after Sandy Hook, the consensus was not to put armed police in elementary schools even with the risk of school shootings. So my question stands, are the vocal advocates on this board for SROs who are belittling the supporters of the change and the council members who voted for it actually advocating for an expansion of the program to elementary schools since their professed justification here is to protect against school shootings? Finally, if a horrible tragedy did happen here in Alexandria, I think the proponents for keeping police out of school will be able to live with their position since there are so many reasons for gun violence / mass shootings in this country including the ease of access to weapons that can be used in mass killings and the lack of mental health care (and identifying people who need such help).

Who is running in District C? Meagan Alderton, the current chair and Abdel Elnoubi, a former Tucker PTA president and Tucker parent. Is Heather Thornton running again? What happens if only two people run in District C? Do we just wait until Monday, when the filings are due?

ALX Now said Colleen Boyle is also running in District A.

Key issues are opening of schools, and where does the school board stand on advanced math.
State DOE is pushing detracking, putting all kids in the same grade level class with no acceleration. For now they are saying school divisions will have leeway to let kids move faster or have advanced sections.
However, they are pushing the staff to minimize advancement. Already LCPS has removed middle school advancement to a considerable degree, You will need a school board that pushes back on county staff to ensure you keep honors math and other honors classes, as weil as letting kids take algebra in middle school.

That tells me that they find value in the presence of the SROs in their buildings and that we need the SROs in the schools. It takes a tremendous amount of hubris by the City Council to think that they know better than the Principals. My worry is that on some awful day the children are going to be the ones who pay the price for it.

I have a list of those that supported the removal of SROs. I'll publish that everywhere and anywhere the day a shooting happens here. The parents of the dead will blame your for thier loss, make no mistake.

+2 I hope you never have to publish your list.

Again, to all of you who are expressing your opposition to the SRO decision by threatening those of us who support it, go on with your threats. I can live with the risk of being called out by people like you if a tragedy happens since you would be the ones politicizing a tragedy (and the SRO change does not meaningfully change the safety profile of ACPS schools with respect to shooting dangers).

Right. It sounds like this:

So what if I supported removing cops from schools and some kid then killed your daughter and 11 others. It was worth it because a the tenant union said brown kids felt unsafe! I hope my smug attitude really comforts you!

Alternatively, if its my kid that gets hurt by your decision, you better keep your head on a swivel. You'll never be comfortable in this city again. I promise you that.

See, this is whats wrong with the Alexandria Dems. They think school security is racist. But they have no problem being a white, SAHM just dripping with privilege while they pay POC servce workers absolute garbage wages.

Take note children- this is what a liberal arts degree and a little time on your back does for you. Mommy cracked her legs open in 2002 and never worked again. Now shes a SJW!!!

We are now in sexist and racist territory. This debate is about police in schools. ACPS still has its own security. Attacks on community interest groups based on their racial make up is text book racism.

More interesting question is whether those supporting the removal of SROs actually send their kids to public schools? I bet not. Nothing like moving into a neighborhood with those SJW yard signs to find out the kids are in private school.

I’ve found much the opposite-lots of “Back the Blue” types who would NEVER send their kids to ACPS past elementary because Danger and Crime.

LOL. Are you lost? This is Alexandria. I'd wager there isn't a single "Back the Blue" sign/flag/poster in the entire city.

Not only that, but if you flew one in the east end I'd wager good money people would eqaute it to flying a Confederate Flag. About two years ago someone climbed the backstop at Braddock and Mt Vernon in Del Ray (just across from Lenas Pizza) and zip tied a Trump sign to it. People on various list servs in Del Ray and Rosemont had seizures. Some posted that they called 911.

Think about that. Calling 911 because someone hung a banner with the POTUS name on it.

These are deranged, delusional people that live in a teeny tiny bubble.
